PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — It was a beautiful night to be out and about on Sunday. The Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square wrapped up its two-month run. Action News caught up with visitors soaking in every moment of this long holiday weekend.<\/p>\n
“So fun, I’ve been wanting to come all summer long,” said Patty Van Zanten, of Warrington, Pa.<\/p>\n
The final night of the Chinese Lantern Festival lit up Franklin Square in full technicolor.<\/p>\n
“That’s why we had to get here,” said Barbara Wilson, of West Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
For many, it was the perfect sendoff to the summer season.<\/p>\n
“It’s awesome, and I’m a teacher, so this is my last hurrah for the summer,” said Van Zanten.<\/p>\n
Crowds filled the park, families enjoyed the holiday weekend, and even the youngest visitors were enchanted.<\/p>\n
“It’s just something to do, I’m excited, and I want him to experience it as well,” said Charlene Wilson, of West Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
For some, this festival has become a tradition.<\/p>\n
“So much fun, I come here almost every year. I just love seeing the art, everything they have to offer, the food, it’s just amazing,” said Thomas Hewitt, of Williamstown, N.J.<\/p>\n
Tradition was the theme across the city. Drone 6 captured scenes in Fairmount Park, where families gathered to celebrate Labor Day weekend together.<\/p>\n
“It’s all about family out here. I work a lot, so today, it’s nothing but love with the family on Labor Day,” said Andrew Stewart, of West Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
This holiday weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. Families took one last dip in the pool, kids played outside, and everyone squeezed the most out of the long weekend.<\/p>\n
“It’s about enjoying family and friends on the last day of summer vacation, and prayerfully, that everybody just has a good time,” said Gail Graves, of Overbrook.<\/p>\n
Grills were fired up, serving holiday favorites from chicken to sausage to steak.<\/p>\n
With perfect weather topping it all off, many said this summer’s final chapter couldn’t have ended on a brighter note.<\/p>\n
