(File photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>If chili is your passion \u2013 obsession, maybe? \u2013 this is your San Diego weekend, whether in the city or in North County. And maybe craft beer too? Then this really is your weekend \u2013 and we mean, all weekend.<\/p>\n<p>But first, perhaps you should work off some calories up front. <a href=\"https:\/\/event.marriott.com\/sandt-marriott-marquis-san-diego-marina\/events\/san-diego\/downtown-skate-10107829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Downtown Skate<\/a> begins Friday at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina so you can bounce, rock, skate and roll with a waterfront view for $20 a session. The rink opens daily at noon through July 9.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re classically inclined, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topspresents.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cinema Under the Stars<\/a> in Mission Hills has a gem this weekend, and  \u2013 preview \u2013 one next week too. Singin\u2019 in the Rain, starring Gene Kelly in <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/swloMVFALXw?si=32p8UK4F48Cs7P_G\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this iconic scene<\/a>, screens at 8 p.m. Friday and Sunday. Coming up Thursday though July 6 \u2013 Casablanca \u2013 with WW2 intrigue, freedom fighters, and yes, Bogie and Bacall. Admission starts at $18.<\/p>\n<p>No, It\u2019s not July 4th until next week. But in Oceanside, this is the time to celebrate for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetoceanside.com\/parade-date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">variety of reasons<\/a>. The Oceanside Independence Parade, paced by floats and bands, starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, heading down Coast Highway from Wisconsin Avenue to Civic Center Drive. The theme? \u201cStars &amp; Stripes by the Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chili fanatics! Ready? Here you go:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The 45th Annual\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oceanbeachsandiego.com\/attractions\/annual-events\/ob-street-fair-chili-cook?srsltid=AfmBOopB2xANCuMtuV3UGpy11u2YFr5W3LxGeZ_31uW0mZ7wniNiTyYe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OB Street Fair &amp; Chili Cook-Off<\/a>\u00a0opens at 10 a.m. Saturday along Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach. The event features art, food, music on two stages, a kids fun zone and the all-important chili contest, at 11 a.m. Tasting tickets start at $2 each. If good eats (and a spectacle) are your preferred forms of entertainment, there\u2019s also the Dirty Birds Wing-Eating Contest at 1:30 p.m. and Hodad\u2019s Burger-Eating Contest three hours later (time to digest?).<\/li>\n<li>The second annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/2nd-annual-oceanside-ace-hardware-bbq-comp-and-first-command-chili-cookoff-tickets-1249545266529\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ace Hardware and First Command BBQ Competition<\/a> in Oceanside starts at Ace Hardware, 263 S. Coast Highway, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The event, for charity, also features a food truck, photo contest and a \u201cChristmas in June\u201d at 8:30 p.m. And yes, it\u2019s not just about barbecue \u2013 they take chili entrants too. Tickets start at $10 for tastes or range from $50-$100 to enter the competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Colores de Mexico starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdhpr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House of Pacific Relations<\/a> in Balboa Park. The House of Mexico\u2019s free event includes live music, art, food and children\u2019s activities. An HPR extra: House of Ukraine hosts Ukraine in the Heart at 2 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The free San Diego <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdblackacd.org\/events\/music-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Arts &amp; Culture District Music Festival<\/a> opens at noon Saturday at MLK Park. Marking Black Music Month, the event includes performances, art exhibits and a STEAM tent. Miki Vale, C.C. Carter, Daneen Wilburn and Ben Williams are on the slate. Head to the 65th Street side of the park.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least \u2013 beer! The highlight of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdbeer.com\/sdbeerweekend.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Beer Weekend<\/a> \u2013 a prelude to autumn\u2019s Beer Week that starts Friday \u2013 is\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdbeer.com\/rhythmandbrews.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rhythm &amp; Brews<\/a>\u00a0festival at 1 p.m. Saturday at Citrus Avenue and Broadway in Vista. More than 30 local craft breweries will serve unlimited tasters of everything from sculpins to sours while guests enjoy music from the bands\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/soulsellerband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Soulseller<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/loom_sd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LOOM<\/a>, along with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/mendicelli\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DJ Goldie<\/a>, and food from three vendors. Tickets start at $75.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/latinolegacyfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Latino Legacy Foundation<\/a>, as part of its Storyteller Series, hosts \u201cReach For the Stars,\u201d with Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina astronaut and Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree.
