Three major world powers \u2013 China, India<\/a> and Russia \u2013 all with various frictions with the United States, projected an image of solidarity on Monday in front of the international media during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin.During his first visit to China in seven years, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the hands of his counterparts \u2013 Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> and Chinese President Xi Jinping \u2013 and pulled them closer.<\/p>\n

As the three leaders mingled, one interpreter translated Putin\u2019s words, which began with \u201cWe three friends \u2026\u201d, before a broadcast signal provided by the summit press centre drowned out the rest of the translation.<\/p>\n

Modi laughed several times during the conversation and clasped Putin\u2019s hands a second time.<\/p>\n
