{"id":191397,"date":"2025-09-01T12:11:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T12:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/191397\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T12:11:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T12:11:09","slug":"ut-san-antonio-merger-completed-becoming-texas-third-largest-public-research-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/191397\/","title":{"rendered":"UT San Antonio merger completed, becoming Texas\u2019 third-largest public research university"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 UTSA and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio announced the completion of the institution\u2019s unified merger on Monday morning, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The UT System\u2019s Board of Regents formally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/22\/utsa-and-ut-health-san-antonio-announce-historic-merger-to-create-a-new-premier-global-university\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/22\/utsa-and-ut-health-san-antonio-announce-historic-merger-to-create-a-new-premier-global-university\/\">announced<\/a> the plans last year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">With the merger completed, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) is now the state\u2019s third-largest public research university in Texas, according to annual research expenditures, behind Texas A&amp;M University and UT Austin, the release said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe intentionally grounded UT San Antonio in excellence \u2014 excellence in education, healthcare, transdisciplinary research and discovery \u2014 to form a model public research university that is nimble, creative and unlike any other,\u201d said UT San Antonio President Taylor Eighmy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Eighmy, who has been at UTSA since 2017, was named as the institution\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/08\/21\/ut-system-names-taylor-eighmy-as-inaugural-president-of-new-ut-san-antonio-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/08\/21\/ut-system-names-taylor-eighmy-as-inaugural-president-of-new-ut-san-antonio-campus\/\">inaugural president<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">UT San Antonio now comprises 40,000 students, 17,000 employees and more than $486 million in annual research expenditures, the release said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The merger now puts 15 colleges across the school\u2019s six campuses, offering 320 undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For instance, UT San Antonio announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/08\/29\/utsa-launches-new-journalism-degree-to-equip-students-for-the-fast-changing-media-field\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/08\/29\/utsa-launches-new-journalism-degree-to-equip-students-for-the-fast-changing-media-field\/\">new journalism program<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The UT San Antonio Health Science Center is the region\u2019s only academic health center and \u201ca globally leading health sciences institution,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Athletics stays part of UT San Antonio\u2019s culture; student athletes will continue to compete as part of the American Conference, and Rowdy the Roadrunner remains the school\u2019s mascot. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">UT San Antonio is projected to have a $7 billion annual economic impact, the release states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI cannot overstate the significance of what this new UT San Antonio will mean to Texas and the nation,\u201d said UT System Board of Regents chairman Kevin Eltife<b>.<\/b> \u201cThis is and always will be about impact.
