Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. broke ground on a 15-acre industrial reclamation water plant that will increase the chipmaker\u2019s wastewater recycling rate up to 90% at its north Phoenix fab site.<\/p>\n

TSMC\u2019s industrial reclamation water plant is designed to achieve \u201cnear zero liquid discharge,\u201d meaning the company will have the ability to reuse nearly every drop of water. The IRWP will support TSMC\u2019s two fabs at its north Phoenix site with capacity to expand to accommodate future fabs, according to a company announcement.<\/p>\n

TSMC Arizona<\/a> President Rose Castanares said the near zero liquid discharge design of the company\u2019s IRWP illustrates its commitment to green manufacturing and maintaining the water supply for a growing Phoenix community.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the many reasons we chose Phoenix for our U.S. operation was the state\u2019s and city\u2019s thoughtful and thorough planning, including a water supply plan for 100 years,\u201d Rose Castanares, president of TSMC Arizona, said in a statement. \u201cWe know that water is a constant concern in the region. We will be a responsible corporate neighbor in our use of natural resources, including water.\u201d<\/p>\n
