Such hypocrisy,\u201d one user wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cMulticulturalism has gone too far, pass the soy sauce,\u201d another commented sarcastically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cI\u2019ll take the sweet and sour pork and get out of me country!\u201d a third joked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThey\u2019re literally the same as the MAGAs we have in the US Global hypocrisy,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201c<a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/travel\/china\" rel=\"noopener\">Chinese<\/a> meal and his Chinese-made flag! Credit: AAP<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">But some defended the protesters, arguing it showed they were not opposed to immigration altogether, only to high levels of intake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThis is put up as hypocrisy, but backfires because it\u2019s evidence they\u2019re not anti-immigration, just mass immigration, which is what the rally purported to be,\u201d one person argued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cSaying we need to massively slow immigration doesn\u2019t mean you hate Asians. It just means you think Australians should have a chance of getting their own home, before we import more yoga instructors and dog walkers,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cI don\u2019t see the conflict here. I know Asians who think the immigration levels are off the charts. It\u2019s not black and white,\u201d added another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Western Sydney University Professor Gregory Noble said the photo revealed \u201ca degree of irony at least and hypocrisy at worst\u201d, but argued a deeper issue was at play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt reflects a lack of understanding of Australia\u2019s past and its reliance on immigration as a nation- and economy-building strategy since British colonisation,\u201d Noble said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">He added that while some people may have legitimate concerns about immigration, their voices were overshadowed by far-right groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt wasn\u2019t clear whether there was a consensus amongst those marching about that they see as the problem and why,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt is also evidence of the growing public boldness of the radical right in Australia, and their use of Trump-like strategies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1eef094de50528116fff9616eec8d5a1db623333-16x9-x0y306w5879h3307.jpg\" alt=\"Protestors gather out side Flinders Street Station during the March for Australia anti-immigration rally in Melbourne, Sunday, August 31, 2025.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"3307\" width=\"5879\"\/>Protestors gather out side Flinders Street Station during the March for Australia anti-immigration rally in Melbourne, Sunday, August 31, 2025. Credit: AAP<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Monash University Associate Professor Ben Wellings said the protest reflected a wider mistrust of established politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThe anti-immigration protests appeared to draw together groups and individuals with a wide range of views but many of whom share some sort of mistrust of established politics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThis anger and disaffection \u2014 sometimes based on misinformation \u2014 can be spread via social media which amplifies outrage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) said it had \u201cofficially distanced itself\u201d from the March for Australia, claiming the tone set by organisers invited infiltration from extreme groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">SPA National President Peter Strachan said he and others were discouraged from attending the rally \u201cbecause of the likelihood that its agenda would be hijacked by a small group of unsavoury and noisy nationalists\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cA survey shows that while most Australians like immigration, they think that the numbers are too high,\u201d Strachan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThe recent pace of net overseas migration at over 350,000 per year is well above the sustainable 70,000 per year that worked well over the four decades leading to 2003.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The SPA\u2019s concerns focus on the environment, water security, cost of living and the housing crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It supports reducing the overall immigration intake, but not ending it entirely.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"css-6fiqrm-StyledLinkWrapper e1y7kr221\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/victoria-police-believe-alleged-cop-killer-dezi-freeman-is-being-helped-or-harboured-c-19874270\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>Police make unsettling revelation about manhunt for accused double cop killer<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xp0jgm-StyledTimeToRead e1y7kr223\">2 min read<\/p>\n<p><\/a><a class=\"css-6fiqrm-StyledLinkWrapper e1y7kr221\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/news\/manhunt-for-protester-who-waved-sign-of-alleged-cop-killer-dezi-freeman-at-adelaide-anti-immigration-rally-c-19873891\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>Manhunt for protester who waved fugitive cop killer placard at rally<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xp0jgm-StyledTimeToRead e1y7kr223\">1 min read<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Anti-immigration protesters have drawn criticism after being spotted dining at a yum cha restaurant after the rally.
