New York residents could catch a rare glimpse of the glowing Northern Lights to start off the week.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">A full-halo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/nmp\/st5\/SCIENCE\/cme.html#&amp;_intcmp=fxw_learn_article_main-content_article-body_2_4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">coronal mass ejection<\/a> (CME) was seen by satellites erupting from the Sun on Saturday, prompting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-a-geomagnetic-storm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Geomagnetic Storm Watch<\/a> to be issued through Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The solar storm could lead to a viewing of the Northern Light across much of the northern United States, including New York.<\/p>\n<p> When to look up <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Local perspective:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Impacts from the CME are expected to interact with the Earth\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/atmosphere#&amp;_intcmp=fxw_learn_article_main-content_article-body_2_5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">atmosphere<\/a> between Monday night and Tuesday morning East Coast time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Under the current forecast, the Northern Lights will be best viewed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p> How to watch <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What you can do:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The NOAA says that viewing the aurora depends on four important facts: geomagnetic activity, location, darkness and timing:<\/p>\n<ul original-article-post=\"\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">Find a north-facing location with an unobstructed view<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">Go out at night, away from city lights<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">Look up between 10 p.m. and 2 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> What is a CME? <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Dig deeper:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">A coronal mass ejection occurs when an eruption of charged material from the Sun travels through space, to reach Earth.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Unlike a regular CME, which departs from one area, halo CME emissions appear as a ring on a coronagraph image.
