{"id":192186,"date":"2025-09-01T19:11:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T19:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/192186\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T19:11:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T19:11:11","slug":"woody-allen-heaps-praise-on-donald-trump-with-bill-maher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/192186\/","title":{"rendered":"Woody Allen Heaps Praise on Donald Trump With Bill Maher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Woody Allen heaped unexpected praise on President Donald Trump during a sit-down with Bill Maher, recalling that the now-president was \u201cvery easy to work with\u201d on his 1998 film Celebrity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Appearing on Maher\u2019s <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yaNryNkjPm0&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yaNryNkjPm0\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yaNryNkjPm0\">Club Random podcast<\/a>, the 89-year-old director said Trump was \u201ca pleasure to work with and a very good actor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m not a Trumper,\u201d Allen said. \u201cI\u2019m one of the few people who can say he directed Trump. I directed Trump in a movie. And he was a pleasure to work with and a very good actor. He was very polite\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHow dare you,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAnd hit his mark and did everything correctly and had a real flair for show business\u2014\u201d Allen continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIf you think you were canceled before\u2026\u201d Maher joked, referencing the allegations of sexual abuse that have haunted Allen for decades but came to a head in recent years as the #MeToo movement took hold.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0120533\/mediaviewer\/rm2098964225\/&#10;&#10;Trump and Judy Davis in the 1998 movie 'Celebrity.'\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/HYIEVN7G3VBTHEZNT4TOTZJ4D4.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"456\"\/>Trump and Judy Davis in the 1998 movie &#8216;Celebrity.&#8217; IMDB <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI could direct him now if he would let me. If he\u2019d let me direct him now that he\u2019s president, I think I could do wonders. But he was very easy to work with,\u201d Allen added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Still, Allen insisted he does not back Trump politically. \u201cWell, you know, I\u2019m a Democrat. I voted for Kamala Harris. And I take issue with him, you know, on 95 percent of the things. Maybe 99 percent. But as an actor, he was very good. He was very convincing and very, you know, he has a charismatic quality as an actor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Allen expressed surprise that Trump pursued politics, calling it \u201cnothing but headaches and critical decisions and agony.\u201d He added, \u201cAnd this was a guy I used to see at the Knicks games, and he liked to play golf and he liked to judge beauty contests. And he liked to do things that were enjoyable and relaxing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Maher pressed further: \u201cBut you don\u2019t think going into politics is the ultimate acting job?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Allen replied, \u201cThat doesn\u2019t bother me. They all have to put up a certain patina for the public. I disagree with almost all, not all, but almost all of his politics or his policies. I can only judge what I know from directing him in film. And he was pleasant to work with, very professional, very polite to everyone. As I say, I would like to direct him now as president and have me make the decisions. Michael Stewart\/FilmMagic <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Maher later turned the conversation toward Allen\u2019s scandals, suggesting the director was \u201ca victim of the over-excesses of the #MeToo movement and wokeness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He attempted to portray the critique of Allen as exclusively liberal, but Allen interjected, \u201cIt comes from both sides.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Allen said he was \u201clucky\u201d that his \u201ccancellation,\u201d so to speak, came after a long career. \u201cI wasn\u2019t hurt by it, but if I was 40 or 50 or 30 or something, it would have been painful,\u201d he explained. Europa Press News\/Europa Press via Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Maher noted that Allen\u2019s first public reckoning came much earlier. \u201cThe first wave of it happened in 1993,\u201d Maher said, referring to allegations that Allen molested his then-seven-year-old adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, at Mia Farrow\u2019s Connecticut home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Allen responded that the allegations were investigated twice and found to be unsubstantiated. \u201cIt was found that nothing ever happened in both investigations, so I never really suffered as much as you might think,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He repeated that he was \u201clucky\u201d that the scrutiny came after his most prolific period of work. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Maher replied, \u201cWell, you were much younger when those two police investigations were going on.
