{"id":192872,"date":"2025-09-02T01:21:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T01:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/192872\/"},"modified":"2025-09-02T01:21:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T01:21:17","slug":"liv-golf-former-player-doubles-down-on-previous-claim-about-pif-backed-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/192872\/","title":{"rendered":"LIV Golf: Former player doubles down on previous claim about PIF-backed league"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Former <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/liv-golf\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"a98bdd27-b225-4fc9-b7d2-bbff98678a53\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"LIV Golf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>LIV Golf<\/strong><\/a><strong> player Eugenio Chacarra has revealed he knew he needed to make a change when he routinely found himself watching major championships on his sofa.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chacarra was recruited by the PIF-backed league in June 2022, shortly after he made the decision to turn professional.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then aged 22, the Spaniard linked up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/sergio-garc%C3%ADa\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"b860f2f8-4f22-430e-9af4-07bf64f8fc98\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Sergio Garc\u00eda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sergio Garcia<\/a>&#8216;s Fireballs &#8211; penning a three-year deal worth a reported <strong>$15m<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t take Chacarra long to secure his first individual title, with the golfer securing a commanding three-shot victory in Bangkok on his fifth start.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chaccara then struggled to find consistency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>His contract was not renewed and he later hit out at LIV, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of promised world ranking points.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>     <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2025-08-17t153722z_2147215461_mt1usatoday26867609_rtrmadp_3_golf-liv-golf-indianapolis.JPG\" alt=\"Sergio Garcia\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Sergio Garcia<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With LIV, there is only money,&#8221; he previously said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was also upset because he was told he would never be sanctioned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/pga-tour\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"0514d135-c0aa-4a5d-a5c8-f7197f44adc3\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"PGA Tour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PGA Tour<\/a> for competing in LIV events.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LIV Golf commentator Jerry Foltz told Chacarra that instead of placing blame on the league, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/liv-golf\/liv-golf-commentator-tears-eugenio-chacarra-place-blame-looking-mirror\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he should look in the mirror<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/bunkered.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bunkered<\/a>, Chacarra has opened up on his time with LIV. He insisted he has no regrets, and he doubled down on his previous assertions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was losing a little motivation,&#8221; he told the publication.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because once you win out there, it&#8217;s just money, you know? If I won individually, I saw nothing change. Once you have a lot of money, this doesn&#8217;t matter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So I was losing a lot of motivation to get better and practise. I don\u2019t know what it really was for sure but I was losing motivation to get better.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maybe [I was] too comfortable. And that&#8217;s what my team thought. And I&#8217;m glad they told me that because I&#8217;m a completely different guy, I&#8217;m a completely different person now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chacarra said he has lost 20 pounds in weight and enjoys &#8216;being around the best players, seeing what they do and what I can learn&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No regrets<\/p>\n<p>Chacarra is understood to have signed a three-year contract in the region of $15m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the course, he earned a further $8m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Now he is attempting to earn his first PGA Tour card via the DP World Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Does he have any regrets? &#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t take anything back,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I got lucky enough that I went when LIV didn&#8217;t have a lot of players. I needed to compete.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We tried to play majors, tried to play the Ryder Cup, tried to be where I dreamed of when I was little because obviously LIV didn\u2019t exist when I was little.
