Former <\/strong>LIV Golf<\/strong><\/a> player Eugenio Chacarra has revealed he knew he needed to make a change when he routinely found himself watching major championships on his sofa.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chacarra was recruited by the PIF-backed league in June 2022, shortly after he made the decision to turn professional.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then aged 22, the Spaniard linked up with Sergio Garcia<\/a>‘s Fireballs – penning a three-year deal worth a reported $15m<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It didn’t take Chacarra long to secure his first individual title, with the golfer securing a commanding three-shot victory in Bangkok on his fifth start.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chaccara then struggled to find consistency.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His contract was not renewed and he later hit out at LIV, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of promised world ranking points.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“With LIV, there is only money,” he previously said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was also upset because he was told he would never be sanctioned by the PGA Tour<\/a> for competing in LIV events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

LIV Golf commentator Jerry Foltz told Chacarra that instead of placing blame on the league, he should look in the mirror<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to bunkered<\/a>, Chacarra has opened up on his time with LIV. He insisted he has no regrets, and he doubled down on his previous assertions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I was losing a little motivation,” he told the publication.<\/p>\n

“Because once you win out there, it’s just money, you know? If I won individually, I saw nothing change. Once you have a lot of money, this doesn’t matter.<\/p>\n

“So I was losing a lot of motivation to get better and practise. That’s why my last year in LIV was a little bad golf-wise and mental-wise as a person.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know if it was watching the majors on the sofa instead of having a chance to be there. I don\u2019t know what it really was for sure but I was losing motivation to get better.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Maybe [I was] too comfortable. And that’s what my team thought. And I’m glad they told me that because I’m a completely different guy, I’m a completely different person now.”<\/p>\n

Chacarra said he has lost 20 pounds in weight and enjoys ‘being around the best players, seeing what they do and what I can learn’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

No regrets<\/p>\n

Chacarra is understood to have signed a three-year contract in the region of $15m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the course, he earned a further $8m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now he is attempting to earn his first PGA Tour card via the DP World Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Does he have any regrets? “I wouldn’t take anything back,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I got lucky enough that I went when LIV didn’t have a lot of players. To have life security when you\u2019re 22 years old, that’s unique and takes some pressure out of your game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The security money-wise LIV gave me and the experience playing with great players was great.<\/p>\n

“But I thought my time there was over. I needed to compete.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We tried to play majors, tried to play the Ryder Cup, tried to be where I dreamed of when I was little because obviously LIV didn\u2019t exist when I was little. My dream has always been to be a PGA Tour player.”<\/p>\n
