In a brutal seventh inning Monday at Petco Park the Padres lost one of their top relievers, before giving up the go-ahead run in their 4-3 loss to Baltimore.<\/p>\n
Jason Adam fell to the mound and grabbed for his left knee after attempting to field a chopper hit towards the mound by Gunnar Henderson. Adam was taken off on a cart after suffering a quad tendon rupture. Mike Shildt said Adam will have further testing done.<\/p>\n
“This guy since he came last year has been a big part of our success,” Shildt said after the game. “This guy is an absolute workhorse… he means a lot to us and we’ll be praying with him and for him. We’re gonna miss him.”<\/p>\n
According to longtime Associated Press Padres beat writer Bernie Wilson Adam was on crutches and had a brace on his left leg in the clubhouse after the game. Adam told reporters that recovery time is six-to-nine months.<\/p>\n
“This bullpen’s so deep, of all the bullpens in the league to not need me, it’s this one,” Adam said. “There’s everything in this clubhouse to win the World Series.”<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old righthander finishes his season with an 8-4 record and 1.93 ERA, racking up 70 strikeouts over 65.1 innings. <\/p>\n
Adam was replaced in the seventh by the Padres’ usual closer Robert Suarez. Dylan Beavers singled off Suarez to break a 3-3 tie.<\/p>\n
Dylan Cease only made it through four innings Monday, giving up two runs. Adrian Morejon allowed a rare home run. Jeremiah Jackson took the All-Star lefty to deep center in the fifth, putting Baltimore ahead 3-2.<\/p>\n
Luis Arraez had three hits, including the 1,000th of his career, and drove in a run.
