The woman’s screams could be heard on a CCTV recording played in the District Court during the trial of Peter Moiler, 44, who is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Kirsten Moiler.<\/p>\n

A man’s voice is heard saying “what are you doing?” and “what the f*ck happened?”.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Alan Dungey told the court this was the voice of Mr Moiler, who was “making sure” he could be heard denying responsibility, while not offering any help to his wife who was on fire.<\/p>\n
She threw herself into a creek while Mr Moiler drove away from the scene.<\/p>\n
Mr Dungey told the court more than 40 minutes passed before Mr Moiler called police.<\/p>\n
But Mr Dungey said authorities had already been alerted by neighbours and when police and paramedics found Ms Moiler, she told them her husband had “done this to her”.<\/p>\n

The court heard she suffered burns to her face, hands, upper body, and thighs.<\/p>\n
Emergency treatment prevented her from losing her arms.<\/p>\n
The court was told the incident, in June 2023, was the culmination of a sometimes turbulent relationship, marked by methylamphetamine use.<\/p>\n
Cigarette allegedly started fire<\/p>\n
Ms Moiler had moved out of the Mount Helena home they had shared but had returned to visit Mr Moiler, parking at the bottom of the driveway.<\/p>\n
Mr Dungey said Mr Moiler had approached the Holden Commodore and after a brief exchange of words, threw a star picket into the front seat.<\/p>\n
He then used a water bottle to spray fuel onto her, before flicking a cigarette butt, the court heard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The prosecutor said the accused man was agitated because his estranged wife had filed a violence restraining order against him.<\/p>\n
Mr Dungey said the story he told neighbours and police was that, “in effect, Kirsten Moiler did this to herself”.<\/p>\n
But he said the audio on the CCTV footage were “the screams of a woman obviously in agonising pain” and Mr Moiler wasn’t helping her.<\/p>\n
Defence lawyer Roisin Keating said her client maintained his innocence.<\/p>\n
