Hochul\u2019s office told the Daily News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNearly six months [into congestion pricing], traffic is down, buses are moving faster, and business is booming across New York City,\u201d Hochul said. \u201cIt\u2019s also brought more riders back to transit \u2014 with subway and bus ridership on the rise this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MTA has already increased service on eight key express routes heading into Midtown. Next week\u2019s improvements are meant to speed up travel within the boroughs on lines with particularly high ridership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith bus ridership steadily increasing due to the start of congestion relief, enhancing service on 16 local routes makes it easier for New Yorkers to have fast, frequent and reliable bus service whenever they need it,\u201d NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said in a statement. \u201cThese routes are a vital lifeline for many people who don\u2019t live close to subway stations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to an internal MTA summary of the plan reviewed by The News, the transit agency is supplementing its bus fleet with 29 refurbished vehicles in order to meet the increased schedule frequency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor local bus routes, 16 local bus routes \u2026 were identified for frequency and\/or running time adjustments where utilization is high and\/or on routes that have reliability issues,\u201d the summary reads.<\/p>\n<p>In Brooklyn, the service increases will be seen on the B17, B26, B74 and B103.<\/p>\n<p>In the Bronx, frequency will go up on the Bx10, Bx17, Bx23 and the Bx28\/38.<\/p>\n<p>Queens, the most bus-reliant borough, will see improvements on six routes \u2014 the Q13, Q28, Q35, Q43, Q66 and Q69.<\/p>\n<p>Two Staten Island lines, the S46\/96 and the S79 SBS, will also get additional service.<\/p>\n<p>The MTA estimates the uptick in service will cost $6.6 million per year, on top of $5 million already spent refurbishing the 29 previously mothballed buses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bus service on 16 local routes is set to increase next week, part of a package of improvements&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":19435,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5122],"tags":[5229,1370,728,405,403,5294,5296,50,5226,5225,5228,5227,522,67,586,132,5230,68,2969],"class_list":{"0":"post-19434","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-new-york","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-latest-headlines","10":"tag-local-news","11":"tag-new-york","12":"tag-new-york-city","13":"tag-new-york-county","14":"tag-new-york-news","15":"tag-news","16":"tag-newyork","17":"tag-newyorkcity","18":"tag-ny","19":"tag-nyc","20":"tag-transportation","21":"tag-united-states","22":"tag-united-states-of-america","23":"tag-unitedstates","24":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","25":"tag-us","26":"tag-usa"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/114756126240580085","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19434","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=19434"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19434\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19435"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=19434"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=19434"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=19434"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
