\n\tIn the wake of the release of Man\u2019s Best Friend, Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> is still defending the album\u2019s controversial cover art<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Carpenter debuted the cover for her seventh studio album<\/a> in June, some critiqued the image, which depicts the singer on her knees in a black dress as a man stands out-of-shot, clutching onto her hair. It sparked a conversation about sex-positive feminism, though Carpenter admitted in a profile with Interview Magazine<\/a> on Tuesday that \u201cthe reaction [to the album cover] is fascinating to me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf I\u2019m being completely transparent, I don\u2019t do anything anticipating what the reaction will be,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen I came up with the imaging for [Man\u2019s Best Friend], it was so clear to me what it meant. So the reaction is fascinating to me. You just watch it unravel and go, \u2018wow.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tInterview editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg further questioned Carpenter\u2019s reaction to the negative reception of the album art, asking \u201cwhen there\u2019s all this controversy and people are screaming about it, do you like it? Does it make you cry or giggle?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI guess a little bit of both,\u201d she answered. \u201cMy experience and point of view are going to be so different from how other people live their lives. Sometimes I read things and I\u2019m like, \u2018wow, I don\u2019t experience this that way, but if they do, then that\u2019s real to them.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cManchild<\/a>\u201d singer further clarified that Man\u2019s Best Friend was about her personal journey going through \u201closs and heartbreak and celebration and trying to navigate my life as a young woman.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOf the cover, Ottenberg pointed out a critique that some have argued, noting that the image made Carpenter \u201cappear submissive.\u201d However, she explained that it was merely \u201ca metaphor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is on a completely different subject, but I do feel like submission is both dominant and submissive,\u201d Carpenter said. \u201cThe image, the way I see it, is a metaphor, but I\u2019m sure that other people are like \u2018dang, she\u2019s a sub.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAhead of Man\u2019s Best Friend\u2019s release, she lightly addressed the online backlash by revealing an alternative cover<\/a> for the project. In a Friday interview<\/a> with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Carpenter warned listeners that \u201cThe album is not for any pearl clutchers.\u201d<\/p>\n
