Oprah Podcast\/YouTube<\/p>\n<p>Willis, 70, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/30\/bruce-willis-stepping-away-from-acting-due-to-aphasia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retired from acting in 2022<\/a> after being diagnosed with aphasia. His wife, 49, later revealed that the \u201cDie Hard\u201d star had been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/02\/16\/bruce-willis-family-reveals-cruel-dementia-diagnosis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia<\/a>\u00a0in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s podcast episode was part of a larger interview that included Emma and the book she wrote about Bruce\u2019s condition, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.ca\/books\/768943\/the-unexpected-journey-by-emma-heming-willis\/9780593833940\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emma\u2019s written work includes advice and insight for caregivers while sharing her personal experience with her husband\u2019s struggle. Instagram\/demimoore<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, being the ex-wife, even though our family is very connected, is an interesting position,\u201d\u00a0she continued. \u201cSo much fell on Emma to really figure this whole thing out, and the most beautiful thing, and she talks about this in the book, was recognizing the importance for caregivers that they have to take care of themselves. And if they don\u2019t put that time into making sure that they\u2019re okay, that they then can\u2019t show up for anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore shared she has \u201cso much compassion for Emma in this, being a young woman. I think that this book is gonna really be very helpful for a lot of people who are walking through this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite being officially divorced for nearly 25 years, Moore and Willis have remained tight, as they share three daughters: Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31.<\/p>\n<p>Moore further explained to Winfrey that it\u2019s \u201cdifficult\u201d to watch her ex\u2019s decline.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and Rumer Willis posing together at home. demimoore\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to see somebody who was so, you know, vibrant and strong and so directed shift into this other parts of themself,\u201d she stated. \u201cBut, my particular perspective is \u2014 one, I really always say it\u2019s so important just to meet them where they\u2019re at.\u00a0Don\u2019t have an expectation of them needing to be who they were or who you want them to be. And when you do that, I find that there is an incredible sweetness and something that\u2019s soft and tender and loving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cGhost\u201d actress also shared the importance of being \u201cpresent\u201d when it comes to Willis. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you replay where it was and what you\u2019ve lost, it only creates anxiety and and grief,\u201d Moore advised. \u201cAnd so when you stay present, there is so much, and there\u2019s still so much of him there.
