But the problem is very real for customers and business owners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>OUR FIRST REPORT: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2025\/09\/02\/texas-vape-ban-wipes-out-most-disposable-products-whats-banned-whats-not\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Texas vape ban wipes out most disposable products: What\u2019s banned, what\u2019s not<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Oscar Gomez, manager of 1 Stop Smoke Shop in Houston, said the impact has been immediate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThere it says: Made In China,\u201d Gomez said, pointing to one of the products now illegal in Texas. \u201cNot just on this one, all of them are made in China.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Under the new law, all vapes made in China and other countries considered \u201cadversary nations\u201d are now illegal to sell in Texas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Vapes and e-cigarettes made in the U.S. are still allowed, along with e-liquids manufactured domestically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Banned items also include vapes containing cannabis, alcohol, kratom, kava, mushrooms, or any derivatives of those substances, regardless of where they are made. <\/p>\n<p>A new Texas law bans a wide variety of vapes from being sold in the Lone Star State. (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston &#8211; All rights reserved.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Products that resemble toys or are marketed to minors are also prohibited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gomez said the law has forced many shops to dispose of their remaining inventory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cObviously hurting our shop, hurting our business and can\u2019t do nothing about it, it\u2019s already done,\u201d he said as staff opened a black trash bag to toss away now-banned products.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Customers visiting smoke shops in Houston are feeling the effect. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Of nearly a dozen people who came in and out of Gomez\u2019s shop Monday afternoon, all but one left empty-handed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Walki Hernandez, a Houston resident, said he was looking for a mint-flavored vape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cVape with mint flavor,\u201d Hernandez said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But Gomez had already pulled those products from the shelves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Penalties for selling banned vapes include fines of up to $4,000 and even up to a year in jail, according to the new law. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Hernandez said he plans to check other stores but isn\u2019t interested in traditional cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cFirst, look and try to find it in other store, I don\u2019t know, but if I can find it, just nothing, but I don\u2019t like cigarettes, regular cigarettes, I don\u2019t like [them],\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cIf I can\u2019t find it, just, I don\u2019t smoke.\u201d <\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For some, the new law could encourage a healthier lifestyle. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For smoke shops, however, the restrictions threaten their very survival.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HOUSTON \u2013 Puff, poof, gone.
