On the heels of Operation Justice Trail\u2019s four-month completion, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux and Mayor Eric Johnson joined the ranks of DPD\u2019s Fugitive Unit on Tuesday as they set out to take down another one of Dallas\u2019 most violent criminals.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just showing that the ones that we\u2019re targeting and taking off the streets are the right ones that are going to keep committing crime,\u201d Comeaux said.<\/p>\n
The initiative was one of the first for Comeaux as chief.<\/p>\n
As of Aug. 31, the Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force have arrested 349 criminals and cleared 583 warrants.<\/p>\n
The fugitives are responsible for more than 1,900 previous arrests.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re taking out the worst of the worst here, so I appreciate you actually acting on that,\u201d Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said.<\/p>\n
After commands, flash bangs and drone surveillance, DPD arrested Christopher Alexander as Mayor Johnson watched.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople have criticized what we call hotspot policing. It\u2019s smart policing, it\u2019s intelligent policing, it\u2019s going after the crime where it\u2019s happening, and it\u2019s working,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n
Johnson says the city manager\u2019s newly proposed budget, which includes $60 million in additional funding for police and fire, will help give Comeaux the resources to do the job he\u2019s set out to do.<\/p>\n
