After spending over 15 years in the Flyers’ organization, Ian Laperriere is joining the Islanders as a pro scout, a source confirmed Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff<\/a> first reported the news.<\/p>\n

Laperriere was named an advisor to the Flyers’ hockey operations department in May after serving his final season as AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley’s head coach<\/a>. But Laperriere has decided to leave the Flyers.<\/p>\n

The 51-year-old led the Phantoms to the playoffs three times in four years. Before that, he was an assistant coach with the Flyers for eight seasons. He joined the club’s staff in June 2012 as director of player development and became an assistant coach in October 2013.<\/p>\n

Laperriere played on the 2009-10 Flyers team that went to the Stanley Cup Final.<\/p>\n

This offseason, the Flyers had to fill two head coaching vacancies. They named Rick Tocchet as their new head coach<\/a> in May and announced John Snowden as Lehigh Valley’s new head coach<\/a> in July.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of recent former Flyers coaches in the Metropolitan Division.
