{"id":197002,"date":"2025-09-03T14:12:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T14:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/197002\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T14:12:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T14:12:11","slug":"backyard-trail-camera-project-in-ny-supports-dec-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/197002\/","title":{"rendered":"Backyard trail camera project in NY supports DEC research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">NEW YORK (WBNG\/WCAX) &#8212; New York residents can now help the state\u2019s Department of Environmental Conservation by setting up trail cameras in their backyards. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSnapshot NY\u201d is a collaboration between the DEC and Cornell University that helps the DEC expand its research. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">To participate, create an account on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapshotny.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.snapshotny.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Snapshot website<\/a>, set up your camera by following the instructions provided, download the Snapshot App, and upload the pictures you capture. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Trail camera photo\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/MMWOK5EOWZELDB2LTZ5NUVINGU.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"541\" \/>Trail camera photo(WBNG)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Residents might be surprised by what they find. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOne of my favorite parts is, I am running my own snapshot cameras and just finding out the critters that are in your backyard,\u201d said Dave Kramer, research scientist from the DEC. \u201cSo I don\u2019t live in the city proper but in the suburbs of Albany, and in one week, there was a black bear, a bobcat, a coyote, a red fox, a possum, and a raccoon just all at the same place.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The DEC said it\u2019s best if you have your own camera, but you can sign up for its waitlist if you don\u2019t have one. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For more information, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/snapshotny.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/SnapshotNY.org\" target=\"_blank\">SnapshotNY.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WCAX.
