{"id":197144,"date":"2025-09-03T15:32:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T15:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/197144\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T15:32:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T15:32:09","slug":"nyc-cyclists-see-tenfold-increase-in-criminal-summonses-under-nypd-push-new-york-city-news-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/197144\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Cyclists See Tenfold Increase in Criminal Summonses Under NYPD Push \u2013 New York City News Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLindsey Nicholson via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD has made a significant crackdown on scofflaw bikers. <\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"b62qq\">New York City cyclists received 10 times as many criminal summonses in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the first, according to new police data \u2014 part of NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch\u2019s amped-up enforcement plans around street safety.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"a0jjq\">Tisch in April announced a major crackdown on cyclists running red lights, going the wrong way down streets and not wearing helmets. Violators, she said, would stop receiving traffic tickets and start getting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/it-seems-unfair-e-bike-riders-protest-nypd-crackdown-and-criminal-summonses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">criminal summonses<\/a>\u00a0that require a court appearance.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"6llom\">Data out this week from the NYPD shows that criminal summons, or \u201cpink tickets,\u201d for cyclists jumped from 561 before the directive to nearly 6,000 tickets in the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"6llom\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/nyc-cyclists-see-tenfold-increase-in-criminal-summonses-under-nypd-push\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read the full story on Gothamist<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Lindsey Nicholson via Getty Images The NYPD has made a significant crackdown on scofflaw bikers.
