Lee\/The Boston Globe via Getty ImagesMartina Navratilova now thinks Jannik Sinner is the favourite to win the US Open<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the tournament, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/martina-navratilova-and-tim-henman-pick-the-players-they-think-will-win-the-us-open-this-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Navratilova predicted Carlos Alcaraz to win the US Open<\/a> after his victory at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/cincinnati-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cincinnati Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/jannik-sinner-is-beginning-to-create-an-issue-for-tennis-tournament-organizers-by-simply-being-too-good\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner\u2019s emphatic victory over Alexander Bublik<\/a>, Navratilova told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/tennis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sky Sports<\/a> that she has now actually changed her mind, but she was by no means ruling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz<\/a> out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did pick Carlos before the tournament started.\u00a0Although the way Sinner played yesterday was pretty scary,\u201d said Navratilova. \u201cAlthough I think with his variety, he still has a chance. But I think Sinner is the slight favorite, especially the way\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0been playing on the hard courts these last two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0hard to go against that but Carlos has looked sharp as well and he can bring something extra that even Sinner\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0have\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martina Navratilova rates Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s performance vs Jiri Lehecka<\/p>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner<\/a> is now Navratilova\u2019s prediction to win the title, Alcaraz is the only player yet to drop a set in the men\u2019s singles draw at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/martina-navratilova-claims-carlos-alcaraz-has-a-unique-skill-that-nobody-else-in-tennis-does\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Navratilova has also praised Alcaraz at the US Open<\/a> this year, and was full of praise for the Spaniard after his victory over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jiri-lehecka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jiri Lehecka<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s found the perfect balance for himself and that speaks for his state of mind,\u201d said Navratilova. \u201cHe\u2019s mature enough to know what he needs to do now, and it will help his longevity as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been all A\u2019s at this point.
