Multiple conversations have reportedly taken place, most recently in New York, to explore potential strategies for helping Cuomo secure the office ahead of the current front-runner.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told the outlet that intermediaries of Trump had been in touch with Adams&#8217; campaign to discuss the possibility of him dropping out of the race and taking on a role in Washington, D.C., although the specifics of the role were not clear.<\/p>\n<p>Similar discussions had also taken place with Sliwa, the Times reported, but Sliwa denied this to Newsweek.<\/p>\n<p>Adams has appeared steadfast in his commitment to securing a second term as New York City&#8217;s mayor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/could-mayor-eric-adams-removed-governor-hochul-charges-2031037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"multivariate\">despite <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/could-mayor-eric-adams-removed-governor-hochul-charges-2031037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"multivariate\">allegations of corruption<\/a> and a lack of support within his own party.<\/p>\n<p>As the mayor of the largest so-called sanctuary city in the U.S., Adams has come under fire from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/republicans\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Republicans<\/a> who see him as protecting illegal immigrants, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/democrats\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democrats<\/a> and immigrant advocates have claimed he has not done enough to ensure undocumented individuals are protected from immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Adams agreed to work with border czar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/tom-homan\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Homan<\/a> on the condition that immigrants who had not committed crimes could continue to access city services without fear.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: black;\">What People Are Saying<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NYC Mayoral Candidate Curtis Sliwa, in a statement to Newsweek: <\/strong>&#8220;The White House has not contacted me, and I&#8217;m not interested in a job with the White House.
