A fourth person has been charged over an alleged attack on a First Nations camp in Melbourne over the weekend.<\/p>\n

A group of black-clad men were involved in a melee with occupants at Camp Sovereignty, in the Kings Domain<\/a>, after the men marched from an anti-immigration rally in the CBD on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell is being held in custody following his arrest earlier this week over the incident.<\/p>\n

Victoria Police said a 29-year-old Rye man was arrested on Wednesday in Sunnyside Road, Mount Eliza.<\/p>\n

He was interviewed by detectives and has been charged with violent disorder, affray, unlawful assault and discharging a missile.<\/p>\n

He will face the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court today.<\/p>\n

Mr Sewell, 32, and two other men, aged 20 and 23, were arrested and charged on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Police continue to investigate the Camp Sovereignty attack and have urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.<\/p>\n

Neo-Nazi leader held in custody<\/p>\n

Thomas Sewell faced court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody after<\/a> police argued he was too dangerous to be allowed to walk the streets.<\/p>\n

A judge will decide on Friday if Mr Sewell’s bail request will be granted. He will be held in custody until then.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old was hit with 25 charges, including violent disorder, affray, assault, discharging a missile and other offences over the incident at Camp Sovereignty on Sunday.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Detective Senior Constable Saer Pascoe told the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court that Mr Sewell should be refused bail because he posed an unacceptable risk to the community.<\/p>\n

“The applicant’s behaviour in recent times has been escalating in violence and concerning behaviour,” he said.<\/p>\n

The officer said Mr Sewell’s white supremacy group had a “documented history of hate crimes” and there was a risk of “serious injury or death” to anyone who stood up to them.<\/p>\n

Mr Sewell had complete control over a “group of followers who will attack on his instruction without hesitation”, Senior Constable Pascoe said.<\/p>\n

Sewell’s lawyer argues arrest was political<\/p>\n

Mr Sewell appeared “aggressive and erratic” when he gatecrashed Premier Jacinta Allan’s press conference on Tuesday<\/a>, just hours before his arrest, the officer testified.<\/p>\n

He also said Sunday’s alleged attack on Camp Sovereignty was “unprovoked”, with victims kicked, punched and attacked with a pole.<\/p>\n

At least three people were injured, including one who needed a head wound stapled, Senior Constable Pascoe said.<\/p>\n

However, Mr Sewell’s lawyer, Matthew Hopkins, said there would be evidence put to the court showing “at least some elements of provocation” against the black-clad men before the Camp Sovereignty melee.<\/p>\n

“There was some conflict and we will be submitting evidence of graffiti on cars,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Sewell was already on bail at the time of Sunday’s incident.<\/p>\n

He was midway through a contested hearing on charges of intimidating a police officer when he was arrested on Tuesday outside the court.<\/p>\n

Mr Sewell’s lawyer accused police of coming after his client for political reasons. He said police only charged Mr Sewell over the Bourke Street incident to damage his hopes of securing bail.<\/p>\n
