Liverpool <\/a>failed in their attempt to sign Marc Guehi <\/a>from Crystal Palace on deadline day. A \u00a335million deal had been agreed between the Reds and Palace for the 25-year-old England international.<\/p>\n

However, the move fell through at the 11th hour <\/a>after the Eagles failed to sign a replacement, despite the Reds submitting a deal sheet in an attempt to get the transfer over the line.<\/p>\n

Guehi would have become Liverpool’s ninth signing of a blockbuster summer window, with Alexander Isak’s \u00a3130m move to Anfield taking the club’s spending to above \u00a3400m.<\/p>\n

Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman and Giorgi Mamardashvili had earlier arrived through the doors.<\/p>\n

According to The Guardian, Marc Guehi is “angry” with Crystal Palace’s decision to stop the move to Anfield<\/a>, having undergone a medical in London to become a Liverpool player on Monday.<\/p>\n

The report also claimed that Palace manager Oliver Glasner warned the club that he would resign if Guehi’s move to Liverpool was completed.<\/p>\n

This came after the Eagles missed out on signing Brighton defender Igor Julio, who was viewed as a potential replacement for Guehi.<\/p>\n

It has also been suggested that Guehi, who is now on international duty with England, is expected to release a statement following a failed deadline day move to Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Glasner stance<\/p>\n

Speaking following Palace’s win at Aston Villa on Sunday, Oliver Glasner made it clear he didn’t want to lose Guehi without a reinforcement lined up.<\/p>\n

“We had a meeting in March where we talked about the situation and we had an agreement that we could sell Marc if we had the right replacement in,” Glasner said. “We wanted to have this replacement at the beginning of pre-season to be independent.<\/p>\n

“That was on July 9 when the season started. It’s August 31 and there is no replacement in the building so it’s clear one part of the agreement is not fulfilled. That means we can’t sell Marc. It’s not a wish or gift for Oliver Glasner, it’s necessary for playing a successful season.”<\/p>\n

A previous version of this article had stated that talks with Marc Guehi had been delayed as Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish was attending a gym session.
