Kamala Harris\u2019 new security detail is made up of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers, who have been reassigned to guard the former vice president after President Trump withdrew her Secret Service protection<\/a>, according to a report.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As many as 14 of LAPD\u2019s<\/a> elite Metro Division officers have been \u201cpulled from working cases\u201d and \u201ccrime suppression efforts\u201d<\/a> to provide security for Harris, local outlet FOX 11 reported <\/a>on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The outlet recorded an unmarked LAPD SUV with at least two plainclothes officers sitting in the driveway outside Harris\u2019 home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood<\/a> of Los Angeles, where the failed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee has been living with her husband, Doug Emhoff, since leaving the White House.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Former vice presidents traditionally receive six months of protection following their terms \u2014 which meant Harris would have lost her detail July 21 \u2013 but former President Joe Biden quietly extended Secret Service security for the former VP \u2013 for a full year \u2013 shortly before leaving office on Jan. 20.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear why Biden extended Secret Service protection for Harris.<\/p>\n

But local leaders slammed Trump for taking away Harris\u2019s Secret Service detail. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more,\u201d Democratic LA Mayor Karen Bass told Fox 11 in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the Governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

California Highway Patrol is expected to also provide protection for Harris. FOX 11<\/p>\n

Harris was also offered protection from the California Highway Patrol<\/a> (CHP) in response to Trump revoking her detail, the Los Angeles Times reported last week.<\/p>\n

Use of CHP officers for dignitary protection would have to be signed off by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, the outlet said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Newsom spokesperson declined to confirm the security arrangement but said: \u201cThe safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Trump also cut off taxpayer-funded security for members of the Biden family<\/a>, including the former president\u2019s son, Hunter, and daughter, Ashley; former National Institutes of Health official Dr. Anthony Fauci; former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas; former national security adviser John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n
