Recently fired<\/a> Saturday Night Live actor Devon Walker thinks the show could use a \u201cmeasure of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking with Variety<\/a> a week after he was released from the show, Walker said, \u201cWhat ends up happening over the summer is oftentimes people are left hanging with big life decisions\u201d as they wait to find out whether or not the show will invite them back for another season, adding, \u201ca sprinkle of humanity could be added into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople trying to start families or buy homes\u2014and there\u2019s no word from the show about whether they have their job,\u201d he continued, clarifying that that wasn\u2019t his personal \u201csituation\u201d but he feels for his former co-workers all the same. \u201cThe show won\u2019t tell them all summer and then will ultimately end up firing them when there\u2019s been months of them trying to work their situation out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand it\u2019s show business and it\u2019s cutthroat, but people have lives, and people deserve to know the status of their job at a reasonable juncture,\u201d he added. \u201cMost people are told they\u2019re coming back to work in a week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walker, who worked on the show three seasons, was revealed to be part of SNL boss Lorne Michaels\u2019 cleaning house after the 50th anniversary season last week. Writers<\/a> Celeste Yim and Rosebud Baker<\/a> announced they were leaving the show prior to that. <\/p>\n

After Walker\u2019s Instagram post calling the series \u201ctoxic as hell,\u201d other cast members Emil Wakim<\/a> and Michael Longfellow <\/a>were let go. Heidi Gardner<\/a>, who has been with the show for eight seasons, also won\u2019t be returning, though she was unlikely to have been fired. Please Don\u2019t Destroy member and SNL writer John Higgins announced his exit on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Walker has been adamant that his being fired from the show was a mutual separation and even \u201cgood news.\u201d He added via Instagram last week, \u201cIt was just time for me to do something different. Please don\u2019t be hitting me with the \u2018I\u2019m so sorry\u2019\u2014we not on that at ALL.\u201d<\/p>\n

He clarified Wednesday some of what made the firing \u201cgood news,\u201d contrasting Wakim and Longfellow\u2019s more somber announcements. \u201cIf you read about the show, if you\u2019re knowledgeable about it at all, you can certainly pick up on things that are toxic about it,\u201d Walker told Variety.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe show hasn\u2019t changed much in all the years they\u2019ve been doing it. There are things that went down on the show that I wouldn\u2019t talk about for free. There are a lot of things I\u2019m still trying to find the right avenue to go into detail about.\u201d<\/p>\n

He seemed to validate, albeit coyly, the experiences<\/a> of some past Black SNL<\/a> cast members<\/a>. \u201cDo your research and come to your own conclusion. I don\u2019t think it should be hard to find wherever you land on that,\u201d he said when asked about what it was like to be Black on the show. <\/p>\n

That being said, he\u2019s \u201csatisfied\u201d with his time there. \u201cI got to do this thing I wanted to do, which is make stuff with some of my friends,\u201d he said. :Life can be funny, because when I started in comedy, at no point was I ever like, \u2018I gotta get on SNL.\u2019\u201c<\/p>\n

Walker added, \u201cIf you\u2019re not Tina Fey or if you weren\u2019t on there for 10 years, there\u2019s an inclination for people to be like, \u2018He didn\u2019t fulfill his potential\u2019 or whatever.
