That question was answered in haunting fashion in episode six,<strong> <\/strong>\u201cWoe Thyself,\u201d when Gaga was revealed as the ghost of Rosaline Rotwood, a Raven like Wednesday (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jenna-ortega\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jenna-ortega_1\" data-tag=\"jenna-ortega\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jenna Ortega<\/a>) and a former teacher at the school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhen Wednesday seeks out Rotwood in hopes of regaining her psychic ability, in true Raven fashion, Rotwood exacts a price: Wednesday and Enid (Emma Myers) are forced to switch bodies, Freaky Friday style, with the threat of death hanging over their heads if they don\u2019t gain a truer understanding of one another. (Oh, woe.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTo coincide with her Wednesday debut, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/music\/film-tv-music-news\/lady-gaga-new-song-the-dead-dance-wednesday-season-2-part-2-1236359741\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/music\/film-tv-music-news\/lady-gaga-new-song-the-dead-dance-wednesday-season-2-part-2-1236359741\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gaga\u00a0also officially dropped her new song<\/a>, \u201cThe Dead Dance,\u201d alongside a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/tim-burton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Burton<\/a>-directed\u00a0music\u00a0video Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe writers created a backstory and biography for Rotwood, explains Mark Sutherland, who together with Colleen Atwood designed the season\u2019s costumes. To create her ghostly garments, \u201cwe went back to where she came from and took the silhouettes for her look from the period, which is the 1930s, and that gave us the perfect shape,\u201d Sutherland says. \u201cShe is a Raven, so there are certain elements: We embroidered feathers on the sleeve that you can just get a little glimpse of as the light catches it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe adds, \u201cThere\u2019s also a little feather edging, so as she floats through the air we have a bit of movement going on, and we put this huge, very light veil over the top of it so we could give it a ghostly look. It was great because the light caught it from the top, and I thought it was just a great reveal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20241111_SH_Wednesday_04_RotwoodThing_0062_v2.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"2031\" width=\"1625\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tLady Gaga as Rosaline Rotwood with Thing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSophy Holland\/Netflix \u00a9 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd while Stefani Germanotta is known by millions as one character \u2014 her stage name, <a data-id=\"1236061095\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/lady-gaga-wednesday-season-2-netflix-1236061095\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Gaga<\/a> \u2014 Sutherland says she was all in on shedding that image to support the world of Wednesday. \u201cShe\u2019s so into the character, she\u2019s into the show,\u201d he says, \u201cso it was great to be able to work with her because it was all about that character [Rotwood], not about the other character, Lady Gaga.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAn even bigger fashion moment occurs in episode seven, \u201cWoe Me the Money,\u201d when Nevermore hosts the fundraising gala arranged by Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi). The Addams family, along with most of the cast, are decked out in their finest 18th century-inspired ball attire for the event, with Dort and Joanna Lumley\u2019s Grandmama Hester Frump arriving by gondola.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe showstopping gala required a whole season\u2019s worth of preparation, says Atwood. The designers kept the theme in mind and started gathering materials even as they prepared for the earlier episodes, filtering the gala\u2019s vintage Venetian inspiration through a modern lens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt evolves as you\u2019re working and as you\u2019re shooting,\u201d she says. \u201cThe people making the clothes within our workroom, whenever they had a minute where they were not doing regular stuff, [they could] create a corset or do something really fun. Because getting to make that kind of stuff is pretty rare, and it\u2019s really fun to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn addition to costume construction done by their own team, they partnered with workrooms in Italy and the U.K. to craft items, with Atwood and Sutherland checking in on the progress regularly as they designed the principal actors\u2019 costumes.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/NIDA-x-Netflix-18688.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"2001\" width=\"3000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tTim Burton reviews costume designs for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix_1\" data-tag=\"netflix\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix<\/a>\u2018s Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCourtesy of Netflix<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOut of the many looks in the episode, certain outfits stood out to each designer. For Sutherland, it was Pugsley\u2019s (Isaac Ordonez) jester costume. \u201cEvery single element, every single triangle, is singularly cut and put together with this fine braid,\u201d he notes. \u201cI just loved the way he looked in that costume, because you have all these big dresses and masks and everything, and then you have him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnother favorite? \u201cObviously, Morticia,\u201d he says. \u201cThe whole family, as they came down the staircase, I thought they looked amazing. It\u2019s not really just one costume, it\u2019s the whole look overall.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/catherine-zeta-jones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_catherine-zeta-jones_1\" data-tag=\"catherine-zeta-jones\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine Zeta-Jones<\/a> wears a black gown with gold accents and an exaggerated waist, along with a matching black headdress, while Luis Guzm\u00e1n, as Gomez, wears a ruffled shirt and intricately embroidered period coat that\u2019s reminiscent of the actor\u2019s Count of Monte Cristo days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAtwood agrees that the combination of the cast\u2019s looks together is what makes the gala so special, noting, \u201cI love the anti-ball vibe of Jenna\u2019s dress. It was like, \u2018I don\u2019t want to be at the ball, but I have a dress anyway that\u2019s great.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe adds, \u201cI loved doing the big dresses on Gwendoline [Christie, who plays Principal Weems] and Lumley that were just insanely \u2014 especially making that dress for Gwendoline Christie, who\u2019s 6 feet tall, in that period, is just fun to do.\u201d Christie\u2019s off-white gown features bell sleeves and a tiered hoop skirt, along with a matching vintage mask. \u201c[She\u2019s 6-foot-3] in the shoes, and she just wears clothes amazingly. It was just great, all the layering of it was really fun, and I thought the set was spectacular with the water entry, and all of that made it even more amazing for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOf the emerald dress Agnes (Evie Templeton) wears to the ball, signaling that she\u2019s coming into her own, Atwood notes, \u201cI love that color on redheads. It\u2019s such a great color for red hair. \u2026 She wasn\u2019t copying Wednesday, but you didn\u2019t really want to do a pastel, so you go with the rich color.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe big swing of the gala is indicative of the production team\u2019s goals for the second season, Atwood says. \u201cIt\u2019s always Charles Addams\u2019 world because that\u2019s the origin of the characters, and because we\u2019re working with a visionary like Tim [Burton] and we\u2019re using the style of shooting that Tim does, it\u2019s taking that and pushing it into another level, opening it up a little bit more,\u201d she notes. \u201cEven though we\u2019re at the school a lot, we\u2019re doing big things at the school. It\u2019s not claustrophobic, in two rooms. They go out \u2014 there\u2019s the Day of the Dead festival, a huge party. It\u2019s making the internal world a bigger world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnother guiding principle was taking the Addams family and bringing them into the modern day, Sutherland notes: \u201cThese are people we can relate to as characters and also, especially with Wednesday and Enid, that people can take elements from their costumes and make it their own and relate to it.
