{"id":198887,"date":"2025-09-04T06:43:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T06:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/198887\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T06:43:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T06:43:10","slug":"anger-over-tiktok-video-of-santa-barbara-clinic-staff-mocking-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/198887\/","title":{"rendered":"Anger over TikTok video of Santa Barbara clinic staff mocking patients"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A group of healthcare workers in Santa Barbara were fired on Wednesday after a video apparently showing patients\u2019 bodily fluids was posted on TikTok, according to their employer. <\/p>\n<p>The now-deleted post, made by a former employee at Sansum Clinic \u2014 a nonprofit outpatient care facility owned by Sutter Health \u2014 showed eight workers mocking what appeared to be the bodily fluid of patients on exam tables with the on-screen caption, \u201cAre patients allowed to leave you guys gifts?\u201d and \u201cMake sure you leave your healthcare workers sweet gifts like these!\u201d In one image, the medical staff are seen pointing and smiling at  a spot with their thumbs up. The caption reads, \u201cGuess the substance!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Sacramento-based health system Sutter Health said that, although the original poster was not an employee at the time the video was posted, others who appeared in it had been terminated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unacceptable behavior is an outright violation of our policies, shows a lack of respect for our patients and will not be tolerated,\u201d the company said in a statement shared with The Times.<\/p>\n<p>The video spread over the weekend on platforms including X, Instagram and Reddit, sparking an outpouring of anger among commenters along the way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo place for shaming the patient in medicine,\u201d one user on Reddit wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy question is what is the culture of your clinic because why did this many employees feel comfortable participating in this?\u201d another user inquired on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>According to an online <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOHkysPDbBw\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a> from Sansum Clinic, officials were notified of the post by concerned patients and immediately conducted a review of the video. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin 24 hours of becoming aware of the posts, we placed the employees on administrative leave, and within another 24 hours, we terminated those involved,\u201d the health system posted.<\/p>\n<p>The video was deleted soon after it was posted once commenters questioned the participants\u2019 ethics.
