A teenage girl is in a critical condition after being attacked by a dog at a home in the New South Wales Hunter Valley.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to a home on Broughton Street at about 11:30am and found a 16-year-old girl suffering critical injuries to her head, neck and body.<\/p>\n
Police say she was treated by paramedics at the scene before being flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.<\/p>\n

Officer say passers-by pulled the dog off the girl while calling for help.<\/p>\n
Hunter Valley Police District officers destroyed the dog with the consent of the owner.<\/p>\n
Police said rangers from the council also attended the scene.<\/p>\n
The 10-year-old dog, described as being large and of mixed breed, lived at the home.<\/p>\n
“Council officers were called to assist NSW Police in relation to a police matter today,” Singleton Council said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Singleton Mayor Sue Moore said the community was shocked by the attack.<\/p>\n
“I absolutely feel for all those involved \u2014 the emergency services and police, council rangers and everyone that’s been helpful in this terrible situation, ” she said.<\/p>\n
Cr Moore praised those who came to the girl’s aid.<\/p>\n
“It’s hard to imagine what you do in that sort of situation yourself, but obviously the bystanders did a great job in what they could do,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s just a terrible situation all around for people involved.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
