SAN ANTONIO – It\u2019s being called the Super Bowl of San Antonio \u2014 the biggest match-up in Thursday Night Lights history.<\/p>\n
In 17 years of TNL, this is the first time we\u2019ve had a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown, as Brennan takes on Smithson Valley. <\/p>\n
Brennan, a 6A powerhouse, squares off against Smithson Valley, the defending 5A state champions. Last year, Brennan handed the Rangers one of their only two losses before Smithson Valley went on a title run.<\/p>\n
Head coach Larry Hill reminded us today that after five games last year, his team was just 3\u20132. \u201cDid anybody see us winning a state championship at that point? The answer is no. But we did.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last week, the defending 5A state champs kicked off the season with a resounding 62-6 rout of Roosevelt at Rangers Stadium. <\/p>\n
Now, Smithson Valley is ready for another big test \u2014 and it comes against perennial power Brennan.<\/p>\n
Junior Caleb Peagler had two first quarter touchdowns to lead Smithson Valley to a 42-0 halftime lead. Peagler finished with five touchdowns against Roosevelt. <\/p>\n
Brennan opened the season with a close 21-13 win over Reagan. <\/p>\n
Quarterback Cayden Glass finished the game 7-of-11 for 124 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another score in the win. <\/p>\n
Two of the best coaches in the state, Steve Basore and Larry Hill, bring programs built on sustained excellence and mutual respect.<\/p>\n
