{"id":199485,"date":"2025-09-04T12:07:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T12:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/199485\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T12:07:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T12:07:13","slug":"yankees-miffed-by-astros-picking-late-start-time-for-getaway-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/199485\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees miffed by Astros picking late start time for getaway game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HOUSTON \u2014 Aaron Boone was talking about his playing plans for Giancarlo Stanton when he brought up the Yankees\u2019 travel schedule with a hint of exasperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe and I will circle up tonight after the game [Wednesday] and make a call one way or another [Thursday],\u201d Boone said before <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/03\/sports\/devin-williams-yankees-unravel-in-wild-loss-to-astros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Yankees\u2019 8-7 loss to the Astros<\/a> on Wednesday at Daikin Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously we\u2019re going to get home late \u2014 again \u2014 going into the Toronto series. I\u2019ll communicate with him a lot on it and we\u2019ll try to do what\u2019s best for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees begin a crucial three-game series against the Blue Jays on Friday night in The Bronx, but they received no favors from the Astros, who scheduled the 6:40 p.m. (local time) first pitch on Thursday for a getaway game. <\/p>\n<p>The Astros are only traveling to Arlington, Texas, for their weekend series while the Yankees are flying back to New York and will land early Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>It is not the first time this season the Yankees have been irked by having a late getaway game before a big series \u2014 they got into Boston in the early hours of Friday morning in June after playing a Thursday night game in Kansas City \u2014 but Boone knows no one is going to feel sorry for them.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37015747\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/new-york-yankees-relief-pitcher-110652140.jpg\" alt=\"New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone and players confer on the pitcher's mound.\" class=\"wp-image-37015747\"  \/>Yankees relief pitcher Devin Williams (38) gives the ball to manager Aaron Boone during a pitching change in the eighth inning against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. We\u2019ll make the best of it,\u201d he said. \u201cI have some conversations sometimes [with MLB], but you also understand it\u2019s the nature of the beast and 162 games in 180 days, you\u2019re going to have some tough schedules. But it doesn\u2019t really matter, nobody cares.We\u2019re at that point in the season, we\u2019re in the stretch drive, we need to keep winning games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37015756\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/new-york-yankees-catcher-austin-110649711.jpg\" alt=\"New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells hits a double.\" class=\"wp-image-37015756\"  \/> Troy Taormina-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Austin Wells started at catcher for the ninth time in 12 games Wednesday, with his past four starts giving the Yankees some hope he may be turning the corner from an extended skid. After going 3-for-4 on Wednesday, he was batting 8-for-19 with three home runs, three doubles and a walk over his last five games after batting .127 (9-for-71) with a .449 OPS in 23 games before that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEncouraging,\u201d Boone said. \u201cDefinitely went through some struggles there for a few weeks, but has had some big at-bats here lately. I feel like he is gaining some traction at-bat quality-wise and result-wise.Hopefully that\u2019s something that helps catapult him through this month too.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In the sixth inning Tuesday, Paul Goldschmidt made a diving stop on a ball and then raced to first to beat Jose Altuve to the bag, but appeared to jam his knee and be in some discomfort after the play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s all right,\u201d Boone said. \u201cHe was a little sore [Tuesday] in general with the knee.
