Florida’s governor and surgeon general are announcing plans to remove all vaccine mandates. Governor DeSantis says some were created by Florida Department of Health officials, while others are part of state law. But former Duval Health Department Director Jeffrey Goldhagen says children will now be at risk for more diseases previously eradicated. The governor also announced plans to create a state MAHA Commission to implement recommendations from U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior. House Democrats accuse the governor of trading children’s health for media headlines.

The battle over a proposed property tax cut in Jacksonville is about to be decided, as city council is on the verge of voting to lock in the reduction. Councilmember Jimmy Peluso argues the proposed $13 million cut would be better spent beefing up resurfacing efforts. Council President Kevin Carrico says even with the tax cut, the budget fully funds the $22.5 million ask for road resurfacing the mayor originally asked for. The Florida Republican Party has launched a new ad campaign targeting key council districts in an effort to sway members to support the reduction.

Attorneys are fighting for the legal rights of detainees at an immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades. They’re meeting with state and federal government defendants in court today – the first meeting since a federal judge in a separate environmental lawsuit ordered operations at the facility to wind down. The legal rights lawsuit claims detainees have been denied the right to meet privately with their attorneys. The facility, built in the Everglades, was intended to aid deportation efforts. The state and federal governments have appealed the judge’s ruling and asked that it be put on hold.

First Alert Weather: Heating up and turning dry. Highs in the lower 90s over the weekend with only and isolated shower or storm on Sunday. Onshore winds return next week with scattered showers and highs back into the 80s.

TROPICS: No active storms. A tropical wave continues to march west today across the Eastern Atlantic. Showers and storms will likely get more organized over the next day or two. A tropical depression or storm could form tomorrow or over the weekend.
