A Dallas company is pulling nearly 3 million roof-mounted attic fans off the market due to a defect affecting the fan’s motor.<\/p>\n

DALLAS \u2014 A Dallas-based company issued a recall for 3 million roof fans at risk of catching fire, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The recall impacts electric motors for gable- and roof-mounted attic fans distributed by Dallas-based Air Vent Inc. The fans were sold from August 2003 to December 2013 at stores and wholesale retailers nationwide, federal officials said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fans were sold for about $74 and $92.<\/p>\n

The recalled motor’s safety cutoff may pose a risk of short-circuiting and creating a fire hazard while in use, federal officials said. The affected motors have a distinctive vent pattern, officials said. The vents on the affected motors align on the outer ring of the motor bell.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Customers with the recalled fans should stop using them immediately and contact Air Vent for a refund, federal officials said. Customers will be asked to fill out the online registration and verification form with photos of the recalled attic fan motor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company has received 159 reports of burning or fires related to the recalled attic fan motors, officials said. No injuries have been reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n
