Highlights this weekend include actress and author Lili Taylor<\/a> bringing Suzanne Bocanegra\u2019s \u201cHonor\u201d to SoHo, \u201cDaily Show\u201d alum Jaboukie Young-White<\/a> in \u201cThe Threesome<\/a>\u201d and Brooklyn artist Ryan Cosbert at \u201cThe Armory Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Free events include a children\u2019s literature festival in Inland and Broadway-themed concerts in Times Square and Battery Park City.<\/p>\n

Golden Globe winner<\/a> Lili Taylor \u2014 known for \u201cSix Feet Under\u201d and \u201cAmerican Crime<\/a>\u201d \u2014 is bringing visual artist Suzanne Bocanegra<\/a>\u2019s acclaimed work, \u201cHonor, an Artist Lecture,\u201d to the city for its first-ever multi-night run after playing across the country since 2019.<\/p>\n

Internationally renowned for large scale installation art, sculpture and performance pieces (some featuring actors such as Frances McDormand, Paul Lazar<\/a> and Ruth Negga<\/a>), Bocanegra has accidentally turned what she once referred to as \u201cone of those typical artist slide lectures\u201d into a brilliant work of art after MoMA film curator Larry Kardish<\/a> asked her to do a lecture in 2009 about a piece of art in their collection.<\/p>\n

With \u201cHonor,\u201d she has woven her own personal narrative and infatuation about one of The Met\u2019s colossal 16th-century tapestries (of the same title) into a stage work. In it, Taylor uses the 15 ft. x 26 ft. Bernard van Orley textile<\/a> to bring life to the personal stories of nearly 70 historical and allegorical figures about honor and dishonor. It\u2019s a lot of fat for the three-time Emmy nominated<\/a> actress \u2014 and new author<\/a> \u2014 to chew on. And she does it well as Bocanegra feeds her direction from the side of the stage via an earpiece.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Daily Show\u201d breakout Jaboukie Young-White<\/a> is back on the big screen in \u201cThe Threesome,\u201d starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King and Ruby Cruz, with scene-stealing appearances from Josh Segarra<\/a>, Robert Longstreet and \u201cSNL\u201d alum Julia Sweeney<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And although the openly gay comedian and musician<\/a> doesn\u2019t get in on the m\u00e9nage a trois action, his bartender character plays a pivotal role in director Chad Hartigan\u2019s romantic dramedy about the ups and downs of polyamorous relationships.<\/p>\n

Hauer-King, of Disney\u2019s \u201cThe Little Mermaid<\/a>\u201d fame, portrays Connor \u2014 who finds himself in quite the quandary when his threesome partners both end up pregnant. You\u2019d have to go see this engaging, witty flick that doesn\u2019t conclude the way you might expect.<\/p>\n

Storm Ascher\u2019s Superposition Gallery<\/a> will be among the more than 230 galleries from more than 35 countries at the new edition of the fair, which director Kyla McMillan says is a \u201cprogram rooted in New York\u2019s cultural vitality and shaped by dialogue between American and international perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooklyn-born artist Ryan Cosbert<\/a> will represent the Walker Street showroom with her work, alongside Marcus Leslie Singleton<\/a> \u2013 a Seattle native known for his distinctive figurative paintings.<\/p>\n

Cosbert, whose new body of work begins with a selection of locations, topics, and people from specific places she\u2019s traveled to while investigating the African diaspora, told The Daily News about how she feels bringing her large-scale abstract compositions to the convention center: \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be a part of The Armory Show. More than anything, I\u2019m proud to share work that speaks to who I am, and to the histories and futures that continue to shape us.\u201d<\/p>\n

In-demand drummer James \u201cBiscuit\u201d Rouse<\/a> will pay homage to one of his musical heroes with a jam session befitting the late musician who played with Jimi Hendrix\u2019s Band of Gypsys<\/a>, fronted the Electric Flag band and also served as the voice of the California Raisins<\/a> in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Buddy Miles<\/a>, singer of the 1970s R&B hit \u201cThem Changes,\u201d<\/a> died in 2008 at age 60. But his legacy lives on through Rouse, who is releasing the vinyl version of his tribute album \u201cBiscuit & Buddy\u201d on Oct. 24.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Living Colour<\/a> founder Vernon Reid, Will Calhoun, Marcus Machado,<\/a> Slim Kings, and others will join Rouse in what he calls \u201can unforgettable night filled with energy, passion, and soul.\u201d Hosted by Maria Milito<\/a> (of Q104.3FM), the event will also feature a pre-show Q&A moderated by Modern Drummer magazine editor-at-large Billy Amendola.<\/a><\/p>\n

Some of the best talents on Broadway from musicals such as \u201cMamma Mia!,<\/a>\u201d \u201cJust in Time\u201d and \u201cAladdin\u201d have been tapped for the one-day-only, rain-or-shine event Broadway League President Jason Laks described as \u201ca celebration of the energy, talent and storytelling that define New York and inspire the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
