A pair of kangaroos escaped from a Texas wildlife<\/a> rescue this week, prompting confusion and delight on social media. <\/p>\n

Waco police received a call about the loose animals around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Photographs and videos circulated on social media<\/a> and local news outlets of two kangaroos hopping down a Waco road. <\/p>\n

Ben Christie, who founded the rescue, told Waco\u2019s ABC affiliate KXXV<\/a> the animals staged the jailbreak after an employee left multiple gates open. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing like getting a call about your kangaroos being outside of your gate,\u201d Christie said. \u201cI thought \u2018Oh skibidy, what an excellent Tuesday evening this is.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Police and firefighters helped corral the animals and return them to the wildlife rescue. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t your typical patrol, but we helped get a jump on the situation,\u201d Waco police said on Facebook. \u201cAll escaped kangaroos are safely back home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Waco\u2019s wildlife rescue helps care for and rehabilitate about 800 injured or orphaned animals from across Central Texas every year.<\/p>\n

On social media, people wondered why there were kangaroos in Texas<\/a> and applauded police and firefighters.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrings new meaning to \u2018Sic \u2018em!\u2019\u201d one person wrote, a play on Baylor University\u2019s cheer. Another said, \u201cPutting on my WACO BINGO card, Kangaroos.\u201d One person asked, \u201cSomeone gotta telawindow to Australia in their backyard???\u201d<\/p>\n

This is not the first time a kangaroo has gotten loose in Texas, which is one of 14 states that allow private ownership of exotic animals<\/a>, although rules vary depending on the county and city.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Nigel the kangaroo<\/a> went missing from his home in Granbury. A volunteer neighborhood search-and-rescue squad deployed drones to help find the marsupial.
