Google has started rolling out the Android 16 QPR1 update for Pixel smartphones, which brings a major redesign of the Material 3 Expressive<\/a> interface. The update is released as part of the September Feature Drop and includes the September 2025 security patch, 9to5Google reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the changes is a revamped lock screen, where the date, day of the week, and weather are now located below or to the right of the large clock, as well as redesigned status bar icons with a new order for Wi-Fi and mobile signal. The quick settings panel has the ability to resize tiles and display up to 16 items per page, and the Bluetooth and mode buttons can now be quickly toggled on\/off with swipes.<\/p>\n

The volume slider has been redesigned, as has the brightness slider, and brighter colors. Notifications now display the app icon on the left, rather than a themed logo. When you slide a notification away, others in the list “subtly respond to your drag.”<\/p>\n

Pixel Launcher has shrunk the At a Glance block by adding another row of icons, updated the search bar, and added a new button to access AI mode. The Wallpaper & style menu allows you to apply five shapes and colors, weather effects (fog, rain, snow, sun), and customize the shape and thickness of the clock font.<\/p>\n

Android 16 QPR1 update is available for Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold and 9a.<\/p>\n
