{"id":200574,"date":"2025-09-04T21:37:27","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T21:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/200574\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T21:37:27","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T21:37:27","slug":"youth-unemployment-is-now-at-level-seen-during-a-recession-report-shows-national","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/200574\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth unemployment is now at level seen \u2018during a recession,\u2019 report shows &#8211; National"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/youth-unemployment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">youth unemployment<\/a> crisis is worse than it looks and teens are the hardest hit, a new report by <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/desjardins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Desjardins<\/a> says, noting it is now at a level normally seen \u201cduring a <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/recession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recession<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The report says Canada\u2019s youth unemployment has worsened since 2022, with overall youth unemployment rising from 10 per cent in 2022 to 14 per cent in mid-2025.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly one in five Canadian teens want to work but cannot find any jobs, the report noted.<\/p>\n<p>It added that young adults, aged 20 to 24, also saw a mild increase in unemployment over the three-year period, from nine per cent to 11 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the relative resilience of the Canadian labour market in the face of trade war uncertainty, the youth unemployment rate has spiked. In 2022, the retail sector accounted for 30 per cent of youth employment.
