{"id":201236,"date":"2025-09-05T03:19:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T03:19:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201236\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T03:19:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T03:19:21","slug":"4-hikers-rescued-after-suffering-debilitating-psychedelic-mushroom-high-in-catskills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201236\/","title":{"rendered":"4 hikers rescued after suffering &#8216;debilitating psychedelic mushroom high&#8217; in Catskills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That\u2019s one long trip! <\/p>\n<p>A quad of boneheaded hikers had to be rescued by forest rangers after they suffered such a \u201cdebilitating psychedelic mushroom high\u201d that they got lost in New York\u2019s Catskill Mountains last Friday. <\/p>\n<p>The intrepid rescuers with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation dedicated their evening to scouring the Slide Mountain Wilderness\u00a0for the fried foursome, who sought help via a satellite text around 5 p.m., <a href=\"https:\/\/dec.ny.gov\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/9\/dec-forest-rangers-week-in-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">the department said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The panicked hikers admitted to eating psychedelic mushrooms and explained that one of them was in the midst of \u201ca debilitating high,\u201d according to the DEC.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.75;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37023683\" width=\"443\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/fr09032505-copy.jpg\" alt=\"Two rescuers helping a hiker walk through the woods.\" class=\"wp-image-37023683\"  \/>A group of hikers high on psychedelic mushrooms had to be rescued over Labor Day Weekend after one suffered a \u201cdebilitating trip\u201d in the middle of their journey. Department of Environmental Conservation<\/p>\n<p>The area where the lost group took shelter was along an interconnected trail hike with elevations as high as 2,600 feet and lined with steep cliffs and precarious drops, James McCartney, president of the Police Benevolent Association of New York State, explained in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbanys.org\/images\/uploads\/pdfs\/Statement_on_Rescue_of_Hikers_Under_the_Influence_9.4.25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nearly two hours later, the rangers had scaled the trail and helped the forlorn hikers back down with aid from the Pine Hill Fire Department. <\/p>\n<p>One of the stoners had to be supported by two of their valiant rescuers as they stumbled back through the woods.<\/p>\n<p>At some point during their elongated trip, one of the hikers realized they\u2019d lost their car keys, so forest rangers also gave them an extra lift to their rental lodge where they could safely ride out the rest of their high.<\/p>\n<p>The following day, one of the rangers hiked back up the trail and recovered the group\u2019s sling bag they\u2019d mistakenly placed \u201cunder a log in tall ferns,\u201d according to the DEC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis level of dedication, at the start of a busy Labor Day weekend, is representative of the<br \/>commitment shared by our Forest Ranger members.
