SAN ANTONIO \u2014 The ambitious renovation of Main Plaza is set to cost $15 million, with city leaders approving an increase in development funding from an initial $500,000 to $2 million.<\/p>\n
The Main Plaza Conservancy, a nonprofit organization, has pledged a $5 million donation to support the project.<\/p>\n
City Council Member Sukh Kaur praised the efforts, saying, “Main Plaza is doing a great job of raising funding to ensure that they’re getting both city, county support and community support.”<\/p>\n
The renovation plans aim to enhance accessibility, improve lighting and landscaping, and create a space for cultural events. Veronica Martinez, owner of the Plaza Caf\u00e9, expressed her anticipation for the improvements, particularly the addition of a clear walkway. “The there’s like there’s not a walk path a clear walk path so it’s and so the ad that would definitely that would be a nice improvement,” she said.<\/p>\n
Joey Villarreal, owner of Blue Star Kiosk, is enthusiastic about the proposed new stage and outdoor dining area. “A stage that we have a lot of good musicians and it’d be great to show them off to tourists and locals alike,” Villarreal said.<\/p>\n
Both business owners hope for more shade in the plaza, a feature not currently included in the plans. With the Main Plaza Conservancy’s donation, the city is responsible for the remaining $10 million. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2028.<\/p>\n
