{"id":201465,"date":"2025-09-05T05:18:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T05:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201465\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T05:18:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T05:18:09","slug":"eagles-jalen-carter-ejected-for-spitting-on-cowboys-dak-prescott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201465\/","title":{"rendered":"Eagles&#8217; Jalen Carter ejected for spitting on Cowboys&#8217; Dak Prescott"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA (AP) \u2014 Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott moments after a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/philadelphia-eagles-super-bowl-a80b8502f36c6a6f53921bdb552328cb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pregame Super Bowl championship celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carter was tossed six seconds into the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/nfl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NFL<\/a> season opener Thursday night for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Eagles were hit with a 15-yard penalty before the first snap from scrimmage, and the Cowboys scored on the opening drive on Javonte Williams\u2019 1-yard touchdown run.<\/p>\n<p>Prescott and Carter exchanged words after the opening kickoff, and Carter spit on Prescott\u2019s jersey before backing away. Prescott quickly motioned to a nearby official who threw the flag and sent Carter packing. Fans booed as Carter walked off slowly, holding his helmet in his hands behind his back.<\/p>\n<p>Carter apologized after the Eagles <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/cowboys-eagles-score-9f5b56860db8300bb54d56b251ea9245\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beat the Cowboys 24-20<\/a> behind two rushing touchdowns from Jalen Hurts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a mistake that happened on my side. It won\u2019t happen again,\u201d Carter said. \u201cI feel bad for just my teammates and fans out there. I\u2019m doing it for them. I\u2019m doing it for my family, also. But the fans, they showed the most love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carter could be headed toward a hefty financial penalty, if not worse, in the first major test of the NFL\u2019s increased emphasis this season on <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nfl-sportsmanship-d84d89bea7babd64340a5aed1e68c9fd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sportsmanship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the officials observed him spitting on an opponent,\u201d referee Shawn Smith told a pool reporter. \u201cIt\u2019s a disqualifiable foul in the game. It\u2019s a non-football act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles took Carter out of Georgia with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 draft.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Carter has quickly blossomed into one of the top defensive lineman and played a key role in helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to be out there with the guys so bad,\u201d Carter said.<\/p>\n<p>Just this week, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio praised the edge Carter brought to the unit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know that nastiness is the right word,\u201d Fangio said. \u201cI just think he has to play with the right mindset to reach his potential, or come close to reaching his potential. He\u2019s just got to be on top of the details, play with great effort, and be focused.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He couldn\u2019t stay focused long enough in the opener to take a defensive snap.<\/p>\n<p>Carter\u2019s stock in the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nfl-draft-eagles-4da8f80d4edc4f0da77cc313db0b8279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 draft slid<\/a> because of his role in a fatal car crash in college that killed a teammate, offensive lineman Devin Willock, and a Georgia recruiting staffer, Chandler LeCroy.<\/p>\n<p>Carter was given one year of probation and fined $1,000 after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing related to the wreck.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles felt they had the right veteran leadership and the professional kind of environment that could help him thrive and put off-field issues behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said during training camp last month that Carter had developed into a force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJalen\u2019s shown how dominating he can be as a player,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you have that guy and when defensive offensive linemen are sliding to that guy, it creates opportunities for the guys playing next to him. You have to count for him. If you\u2019re going to block him one on one, he\u2019s got a great chance to win those matchups.
