Former PGA Tour winner turned commentator and analyst Johnson Wagner believes there is only one perfect candidate to partner <\/strong>Bryson DeChambeau<\/strong><\/a> at the 2025 Ryder Cup.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

DeChambeau, 31, has been absent from golf’s biggest stage since 2021 but will make his third appearance for Team USA in the biennial contest from 24-26 September at Bethpage Black in New York.<\/p>\n

Despite all of his talent, the golfer has endured mixed results at the Ryder Cup<\/a>, with the 2024 US Open champion tasting defeat on three occasions from the six matches he has participated in.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DeChambeau, for some reason, appears to struggle in the foursomes format. DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson<\/a> were thrashed 5&4 by Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren in 2018 at Le Golf National in Paris.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tiger Woods<\/a> and DeChambeau also lost by the same margin to Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler went undefeated in 2021, though that was in the four-balls.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The aforementioned Bradley has decided to begin with foursomes in a few weeks’ time and, it would be a bold and perhaps perplexing call for the captain to bench DeChambeau.<\/p>\n

Wagner believes there is only one player in the 12-man squad that could team up perfectly with DeChambeau.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s Cameron Young,” he told the 5 Clubs podcast. “If you’re going to trot Bryson out, you\u2019re going to need either someone who can flatline it, or someone who can match his intensity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I don’t think there\u2019s many guys that can match his intensity, maybe Justin Thomas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“But when you think about Cam Young<\/a>, the way he’s so steady Eddie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Plus, when you think about alternate shot, Bryson is so crazy with his spin rates and launch angles, he’s not going to play anybody else’s ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“He plays a very specific prototype Titleist golf ball, and guess who won their first event their first week playing that ball. It was Cameron Young.”<\/p>\n

Wagner was referring to Young finally entering the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour<\/a> at the Wyndham Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Young opted to use the new Titleist Pro V1x prototype after using it in practice for only a few holes.<\/p>\n

“So that’s a partnership I think we’re going to see,” added Wagner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I think they\u2019d be tough to beat in best ball. But if you’re going to put Bryson out in alternate shot, it’s got to be Cam Young.”<\/p>\n

Brooks Koepka was DeChambeau’s team-mate at the 2018 and 2021 Ryder Cups in Paris and Wisconsin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the five-time major winner was overlooked this year after a dreadful season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Koepka<\/a> missed three out of four major cuts and finished 31st in LIV Golf’s individual standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The American admitted he only had himself to blame before teeing it up in the Amgen Irish Open.\u00a0<\/p>\n
