Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer believed Alexander Isak\u2019s behaviour in forcing a move to Liverpool was \u201ca really bad look for football.\u201d<\/p>\n
Isak effectively went on strike in order to push through his British record \u00a3125 million ($170m) transfer to the Anfield club on Monday, refusing to play for the Magpies at the start of the Premier League season.<\/p>\n
Shearer said: \u201cI didn\u2019t like how it got to the end. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s ever right that a player should go on strike and refuse to play for a club whilst you\u2019re being paid and have a contract.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand it from the other way around, when a club wants to get rid of you they do, but they\u2019re still paying your wages. When you sign a contract, you\u2019re obliged to fulfil it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former England captain added to Betfair: \u201cAlexander Isak is a good player, going to a great football club who will no doubt challenge for all the big trophies. But, as I said, I don\u2019t like how it happened. He\u2019ll have his reasons, I\u2019m sure.<\/p>\n
\u201dWe can thank him for what he did at Newcastle, but it\u2019s been a messy situation all summer.<\/p>\n
\u201dI don\u2019t think it\u2019s done anyone any good. It\u2019s been a really bad look for football and for the fans because they\u2019re the paying public, the ones that make this great game of ours.<\/p>\n
\u201dIt\u2019s not a good look at all when you\u2019re being paid by a club and refuse to play.<\/p>\n
