{"id":201726,"date":"2025-09-05T07:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T07:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201726\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T07:31:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T07:31:09","slug":"russian-authorities-create-ai-tool-to-censor-books-for-drug-propaganda-meduza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201726\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian authorities create AI tool to censor books for \u2018drug propaganda\u2019 \u2014 Meduza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">The Russian authorities have developed a\u00a0program that uses AI\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/agentstvonews\/11775\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">censor<\/a> books for \u201cdrug propaganda,\u201d Digital Development Ministry official Vladimir Grigoryev announced Thursday at\u00a0the Moscow International Book Fair, according to\u00a0the outlet Agentstvo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">Grigoryev explained that the program will only flag content containing instructions on\u00a0\u201chow to\u00a0make, find, or\u00a0distribute\u201d drugs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">\u201cWe\u00a0hope to\u00a0complete the program with [Russian federal censor] Roskomnadzor by\u00a0the end of\u00a0October and offer it\u00a0to\u00a0publishers who have concerns,\u201d he\u00a0said. \u201cThey\u2019ll be\u00a0able to\u00a0run a\u00a0book through the AI\u00a0before publication and then consult an\u00a0editor to\u00a0determine whether it\u00a0contains drug propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">He\u00a0also noted that the Interior Ministry has agreed not to\u00a0treat the distribution of\u00a0books containing such content in\u00a0libraries \u2014 including school libraries \u2014 as\u00a0a\u00a0legal violation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">As\u00a0of\u00a0September 1, Russian authorities have expanded the legal definition of\u00a0\u201cdrug propaganda.\u201d Previously limited to\u00a0content that promotes drug use, it\u00a0now also includes information on\u00a0how to\u00a0manufacture or\u00a0obtain drugs.
