{"id":201822,"date":"2025-09-05T08:22:33","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T08:22:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201822\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T08:22:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T08:22:33","slug":"nyc-surpasses-11k-evictions-in-2025-heres-a-borough-by-borough-breakdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/201822\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC surpasses 11K evictions in 2025: Here\u2019s a borough-by-borough breakdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CPMXKWEFQRDT5MQIKGSGTNDJEE\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. &#8212; Thousands of New York City residents have been booted from their homes this year as the city\u2019s housing affordability crisis makes it harder and harder for New Yorkers to keep a roof over their heads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3S7OCKEPXFEXXC24LPF4MHDKVA\">The Staten Island Advance\/SILive.com recently analyzed residential eviction data from New York City\u2019s Open Data portal to determine how many New Yorkers have been evicted through the first roughly seven and a half months of 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CVNUQ5RSD5HUBIGNT5ZE4P6QZQ\">The data set includes all residential evictions throughout the five boroughs from Jan. 1 through August 19, the last date for which data was available at the time of the analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"75Y5OPTHI5EDVFUY5CV2X3ANJU\">Through August 19, there were 11,259 residential evictions across New York City, with the Bronx leading the way with 3,749.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KMLGXATBR5CZLLPI77NPHURPH4\">Brooklyn had the second-most residential evictions so far this year with 3,015, followed by Queens with 2,416, Manhattan with 1,673 and Staten Island with 406.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>On Staten Island<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"G34GCT6RF5BYHIQ6PRBCXFLQAM\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/data\/2025\/09\/hundreds-of-staten-islanders-evicted-this-year-see-which-neighborhoods-have-been-most-impacted.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/data\/2025\/09\/hundreds-of-staten-islanders-evicted-this-year-see-which-neighborhoods-have-been-most-impacted.html\">406 residential evictions on Staten Island<\/a> represent just 3.6% of all citywide evictions thus far in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ETBRAUUU6VANTO6NTJ4R6ISJGE\">Further analysis showed that certain Staten Island neighborhoods have seen far more evictions than others through mid-August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DQFITKCLYRAR5C4AT433XE72FE\">The database breaks down the evictions by Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs), which are aggregations of census tracts that are subsets of New York City\u2019s 55 Public Use Microdata Areas. NTA boundaries and their associated names may not definitively represent neighborhoods, but provide a general estimation of the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CXSB2TBDDBCYVM3533YEV74OZM\">The West Brighton-New Brighton-St. George NTA leads the way with 77 residential evictions, followed by Grymes Hill-Clifton-Fox Hills with 56 and Mariner\u2019s Harbor-Arlington-Port Ivory-Graniteville with 41.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JQ463TL5YRGIHOJRBYQMXO5GY4\">The 102 evictions in these three NTAs represent more than 42% of all evictions in the borough so far this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7L3IV65ANNF6DDCCVVIR7ZEE2U\">The fewest residential evictions have taken place in the Annadale-Huguenot-Prince\u2019s Bay-Eltingville NTA with three, followed by the Arden Heights and the Old Town-Dongan Hills-South Beach NTAs, which have both recorded eight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2OZE5OBTOFG5TEQ2IEBI6IHXEI\">Here\u2019s a look at how many residential evictions have taken place across Staten Island neighborhoods this year through August 19.<\/p>\n<p>Annadale-Huguenot-Prince\u2019s Bay-EltingvilleArden HeightsCharleston-Richmond Valley-TottenvilleGrasmere-Arrochar-Ft.
