JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office said a 49-year-old man died on Thursday night after his mini-bike crashed into the back of a box truck on the city\u2019s Northside. <\/p>\n

Police said the crash took place just after 8 p.m. near Mays Street and 45th Street.<\/p>\n

The mini-bike\u2019s driver was headed eastbound on 45th Street when a box truck, which was headed westbound on the same roadway, made a turn and ended up in the path of the mini-bike, officials said. <\/p>\n

The mini-bike crashed into the truck\u2019s rear. The driver was taken to the hospital, where they later died, JSO said. <\/p>\n

Police said the crash marked the 109th traffic fatality of 2025 and briefly shut down the roadway.<\/p>\n

JSO said the mini-bike was an unlicensed vehicle and should not have been on the road, adding that the truck\u2019s driver said they did not see the mini-bike enter their path. <\/p>\n

The agency added that the mini-bike\u2019s driver was not wearing a helmet and his vehicle did not have any headlights. <\/p>\n

JSO also said that the mini-bike is different from an e-bike. An e-bike is powered by an electric battery, while a mini-bike has a gas-powered engine, a smaller frame, and wider wheels than a typical e-bike. <\/p>\n

Mini-bikes cannot be licensed, nor can they be driven on roadways. They can only legally be driven on private property, JSO said. <\/p>\n
