\tDevelopers Are Lining Up to Build Housing on San Diego Unified Property<\/a>

In March, San Diego Unified\u2019s board\u00a0issued a request for proposals<\/a>\u00a0from developers to turn five sites across the district into affordable housing. It was the latest, and largest, step toward fulfilling leaders\u2019 pledge to build affordable housing for 10 percent of district staff.<\/p>\n

Board President Cody Petterson estimated that if all five sites were developed, it could yield as many as 1,500 units of new affordable workforce housing.<\/p>\n

The submission period ended last week, and district officials say they received a total of 15 proposals, including proposals for all five sites.<\/p>\n

A poll in May found that twice as many California voters believe the governor is\u00a0devoting more attention to boosting his national profile<\/a>\u00a0than fixing the problems of the state.<\/p>\n

Caltrans to shut I-5 south near Pacific Beach in first of multiple weekend closures<\/a>

Caltrans<\/a>\u00a0will close all lanes of southbound Interstate 5 from State Route 52 to Mission Bay Drive starting Friday, Sept. 5, at 9 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 8, at 5 a.m.<\/p>\n

Southbound drivers are advised to take southbound Interstate 805 at Sorrento Valley, connect to southbound State Route 163, then westbound Interstate 8 to return to I-5. The off-ramps for those traveling northbound in the area will remain open.<\/p>\n

This is the first of several freeway closures for the\u00a0I-5 Asset Management Project<\/a>, which ensures that the southern segment of I-5 remains in a state of good repair by preserving and replacing existing infrastructure. This weekend\u2019s closure includes replacing a corrugated steel pipe installed during the original construction of I-5 to prevent flooding.<\/p>\n
