Clark has missed all but 13 games with a \u201clitany of ailments\u201d and she has not played since July 15 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/2025\/09\/04\/caitlin-clark-season-ending-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WASHINGTON POST, 9\/4<\/a>). THE ATHLETIC\u2019s Sabreena Merchant wrote \u201ca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessdaily.com\/Articles\/2025\/08\/13\/wnba-maintains-strong-ratings-attendance-despite-star-injuries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/08\/13\/wnba-maintains-strong-ratings-attendance-despite-star-injuries\/\">high volume of injuries<\/a> have plagued the WNBA\u201d this season. MVP candidates Aces C A\u2019ja Wilson and Mercury F Alyssa Thomas missed time earlier in the year, and Lynx F Napheesa Collier and Liberty F Breanna Stewart were \u201cout for long stretches\u201d in August. Sky F Angel Reese also missed multiple weeks after the All-Star break. Merchant: \u201cMany of the WNBA\u2019s marquee national television matchups lost their luster due to injury. Clark and Reese faced each other once. Collier and Stewart were never on the court together, and neither were Clark and presumptive Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers.\u201d The league may have \u201csustained\u201d its viewership growth from last season, but broadcast partners \u201cmissed out on another Clark-induced spike &#8212; and they will again in the postseason\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6600781\/2025\/09\/05\/caitlin-clark-injury-wnba-playoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">THE ATHLETIC, 9\/5<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \"><b>WHAT\u2019S NEXT?<\/b> In Indianapolis, Chloe Peterson noted depending on how long Clark needs to recover, she \u201ccould opt to play\u201d in Unrivaled or the Athletes Unlimited league during the WNBA offseason \u201cin order to get some reps\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/sports\/basketball\/wnba\/fever\/2025\/09\/04\/caitlin-clark-injury-out-season-indiana-fever-13-games-stats-when-will-play-return\/85979324007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 9\/4<\/a>). CBSSPORTS.com\u2019s Jack Maloney wrote aside perhaps from Lakers F LeBron James in the NBA, \u201cno single player in North American sports is more important to their respective league than Clark.\u201d Maloney: \u201cEverything she touches turns to gold, from TV ratings to merchandise sales to attendance figures.\u201d The WNBA is \u201cstill having a successful season\u201d &#8212; the league broke its single-season attendance record, \u201cthanks in part to the extended 44-game season &#8212; but there\u2019s no debate that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessdaily.com\/Articles\/2025\/08\/11\/fevers-clark-talks-responsibility-for-shift-in-viewership-ticket-sales-when-missing-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/08\/11\/fevers-clark-talks-responsibility-for-shift-in-viewership-ticket-sales-when-missing-games\/\">Clark brings extra eyeballs<\/a> to the league.\u201d Maloney: \u201cThe reality is simple: When she\u2019s not playing, fewer people are interested\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/wnba\/news\/caitlin-clarks-injury-plagued-sophomore-season-was-a-disaster-for-the-wnba-the-fever-and-herself\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CBSSPORTS.com, 9\/4<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \"><b>A BIT MISLEADING<\/b>: In Indianapolis, Gregg Doyel noted the Fever considered Clark to be \u201cday-to-day\u201d on July 16 &#8212; where even then, Fever coach Stephanie White was seeing it as \u201cgood news.\u201d Then fifty days later, the Fever announced Clark wouldn\u2019t return this season. Doyel: \u201cAm I saying the Fever have mislead the public about the extent of Clark\u2019s injury?
