At the time, Trump baselessly claimed that the \u201cJobs Numbers were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe latest jobs report found that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/economy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_economy\" data-tag=\"economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">economy<\/a> only added 22,000 jobs in August, meaning there are more unemployed people than there are jobs. The unemployment rate increased slightly from 4.2 percent to 4.3 percent, the highest figure since 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) also revised down the numbers from June to show there was negative job growth for the first time since the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic, as Bloomberg editor Joe Weisenthal <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thestalwart\/status\/1963954478446424065?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe weak labor market is the culmination of Trump\u2019s impulsive approach to economic policymaking. The president has repeatedly imposed new and shifting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/tariffs\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tariffs\" data-tag=\"tariffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tariffs<\/a> on imports from other countries, creating widespread economic uncertainty \u2014 at a time when Americans were already dealing with a brutal post-Covid economy and years of higher prices. (That brutal economy is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/why-kamala-harris-lost-election-2024-1235154713\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exactly why<\/a> Trump beat Kamala Harris last year.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFor the time being, as the monthly job reports underscore a Trump economy that is far from the golden age that his 2024 campaign had vowed to immediately unleash, a top administration-wide priority on this matter appears to be just blaming others for the Trump\u2019s economy, and hoping that enough of the American public buys it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOne Trump administration official tells Rolling Stone that their office had pre-written different drafts of talking points for their principal: One version would blame BLS prominently for supposedly pumping out bad data; if the jobs report ended up being more positive for Trump, another version would downplay the BLS criticism or nix it entirely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFriday\u2019s monthly jobs report was not positive for the president.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cToday\u2019s disastrous jobs report makes it increasingly clear that President Trump\u2019s economic agenda is wrecking the labor market,\u201d progressive Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/newsroom\/minority\/senator-warren-statement-on-august-2025-jobs-report\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>. She added: \u201cThere are now more unemployed people than job openings in the United States for the first time since the pandemic, Trump\u2019s immigration policies are shrinking the workforce, and his chaotic tariffs are slowing down hiring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tInstead of immediately lashing out at the government\u2019s statisticians on Friday, Trump took time to once again <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115152031890524220\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">call<\/a> his Jeffrey Epstein scandal \u201canother Democrat HOAX.\u201d He then quickly pivoted to criticizing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for refusing to lower interest rates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cJerome \u2018Too Late\u2019 Powell should have lowered rates long ago,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115152111914572913\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> on Truth Social. \u201cAs usual, he\u2019s \u2018Too Late!\u2019\u201d (Powell has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/06\/24\/nx-s1-5442665\/federal-reserve-powell-economy-interest-rates-tariffs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">slow-walked<\/a> talk of lowering interest rates, taking a \u201cwait and see\u201d approach specifically because of Trump\u2019s tariffs.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJob searching is bleak. Last year, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/rachelwells\/2024\/08\/13\/36-of-job-adverts-are-fake-how-to-spot-them-in-2024\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">survey<\/a> found that 36 percent of job listings were fake. Companies post fake listings to look like they are growing and farm data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThere are more hits coming. Health insurance premiums are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/09\/04\/business\/health-insurance-premiums-cost-increase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected to spike<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/medicaid-cuts-trump-republicans-explained-1235341686\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">millions of Americans<\/a> will lose their health coverage as a result of Trump\u2019s \u201cBig Beautiful Bill.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHealth care is the only field growing, adding 31,000 jobs \u2014 not exactly a positive given that America\u2019s health care system is both hideously expensive for patients and maddeningly complex.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tManufacturing, on the other hand, lost 12,000 jobs and has lost 78,000 jobs over the year.
