Now he\u2019s my guardian angel,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n<p>News Roundups<\/p>\n<p class=\"dmnc_features-cta-social-cta-social-module__zWZy- mb-4\">Catch up on the day&#8217;s news you need to know.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Yarbrough and Peoples, who formed the eponymous R&amp;B duo, rose to fame in the \u201980s with their song \u201cDon\u2019t Stop The Music.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The couple grew up together, attending the same church and taking lessons from the same music teacher, <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/BillLookup\/History.aspx?LegSess=873&amp;Bill=HR7\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to a resolution<\/a> adopted by the Texas legislature in 2021 honoring the duo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In 1979, they left Dallas, driving to Los Angeles to pursue their career in Yarbrough\u2019s black Volkswagen, according to a 1995 news <a href=\"https:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/ark:\/67531\/metadc1616340\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/ark:\/67531\/metadc1616340\/\">release<\/a> from the then-called Junior Black Academy of Arts and Letters.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cLive performances are a large part of our musical career. When we are on stage, we get an opportunity to make it a party instead of just another performance,\u201d Yarbrough said at that time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In the years after the duo\u2019s hit single, Yarbrough was active in the theater world. He arranged music for a production based on the life of the Texas-born blues luminary Blind Lemon Jefferson called Blind Lemon Blues.
