Another hot day is expected before cooler air settles in for the weekend. Highs will once again soar to nearly 100 degrees today, with increasing cloud cover and a slight chance of rain. Tropical moisture and a cold front are expected to converge over Texas this weekend and into early next week, bringing a higher chance of rain. Heavy rainfall will be possible on Sunday, which could lead to minor instances of flash flooding.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0New Texas law bans certain foreign nationals from buying land<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

In August, Gov. Greg Abbott signed SB 17 into law, which prohibits people and companies from countries the federal government considers national risks \u2014 China, Iran, North Korea and Russia \u2014 from buying or acquiring \u201creal property\u201d in Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Lawsuit aims to block a law restricting free speech at public Texas universities after 10 p.m.<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

A lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, with the goal of preventing the enforcement of a new law that opponents say silences free speech at all Texas public universities after 10 p.m. each night.<\/p>\n

Senate Bill 2972<\/a>, which imposes a ban on \u201cexpressive activities\u201d at public universities, went into effect on Sept. 1. The bill bans the activities between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Attorney General Ken Paxton appeals Ten Commandments injunction<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed an appeal of the temporary injunction that halts the display of the Ten Commandments in schools in select districts.<\/p>\n
