{"id":203847,"date":"2025-09-06T02:26:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-06T02:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/203847\/"},"modified":"2025-09-06T02:26:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T02:26:17","slug":"new-york-mayor-eric-adams-stays-race-after-trump-nomination-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/203847\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Mayor Eric Adams stays race after Trump nomination talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City Mayor Eric Adams looks on during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing to examine the jurisdiction of &#8220;sanctuary cities&#8221; on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., U.S., March 5, 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kent Nishimura | Reuters<\/p>\n<p>New York City Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/02\/eric-adams-case-dismissed-new-york-trump-doj.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Adams<\/a> said Friday he will remain in the mayoral race, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/05\/nyregion\/eric-adams-saudi-arabia-ambassador.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> reported that President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>&#8216;s advisors were working on a plan to have Adams nominated as ambassador to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/07\/29\/khalid-sheikh-mohammed-of-al-qaeda-could-help-in-saudi-911-case.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saudi Arabia<\/a> to get him to abandon his campaign.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m running for reelection, and I&#8217;m going to tell New Yorkers every day why I believe I should be the Mayor of the City of New York in 2026,&#8221; said Adams, who recent polls show struggling to break single digits in an effectively four-way race..<\/p>\n<p>Trump wants two candidates to drop out to make it easier for one remaining challenger to defeat Democratic nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/27\/trump-new-york-zohran-mamdani-communist.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, the clear frontrunner.<\/p>\n<p>Trump on Friday suggested that former New York governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/08\/10\/cuomo-resigns-as-governor-of-new-york-over-sexual-harassment-scandal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Cuomo<\/a> \u2014 a Democrat running as an independent \u2014 had the best chance of beating the democratic socialist Mamdani in a head-to-head contest.<\/p>\n<p>Adams angrily disputed that idea in a statement to reporters outside his Gracie Mansion residence on Manhattan&#8217;s Upper East Side.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;New Yorkers, I want to speak directly to you. There has been so much speculation, communications, announcements of what I&#8217;m doing, no matter what I have stated over and over again publicly,&#8221; Adams said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So I want to be clear with you.\u00a0Andrew Cuomo is a snake and a liar,&#8221; Adams said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am in this race, and I&#8217;m the only one that can beat Mamdani.\u00a0Andrew has had a career of pushing black candidates out of races,&#8221; said the mayor, a Democrat who is running as an independent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I committed myself and dedicated myself to a city that I love, and I&#8217;m going to continue to do that. This polo shirt that I&#8217;m wearing that says Eric Adams, Mayor of the City of New York,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I&#8217;m going to wear that for another four years.
